Nicholas Sparks, author of popular romance novels 'The Notebook' and "Message in a Bottle,' has revealed he and his wife, Kathy, have separated.
Speaking to People, Sparks, 49, said, "Cathy and I have separated," he continued, "This is, of course, not a decision we've made lightly."
"We remain close friends with deep respect for each other and love for our children. For our children's sake, we regard this as a private matter."
The author has published a total of 17 books, nine of which have been made into movies. All of them deal, in some form or another, with the subject of everlasting love.
He once wrote:
"I love you. I am who I am because of you. You are every reason, every hope, and every dream I've ever had, and no matter what happens to us in the future, everyday we are together is the greatest day of my life. I will always be yours."
The couple married in 1989 and have three sons and twin daughters, ranging in age from 12-23.
