With Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse set to begin shooting in about 3 months, screen tests for new characters are beginning to seep through the cracks. It was recently confirmed that Oscar Isaac will play the titular villain in the Days of Future Past follow up, and now Sophie Turner has been currently rumored to be atop the shortlist for telepathic powerhouse, Jean Grey. Inspired casting choice? I think so.

Prior to this new leak in the rumormill, there was buzz surrounding the likes of Hailee Steinfeld (Enders Game), Elle Fanning (Maleficent), and Chloe Grace-Moretz (Kick-Ass) being looked at for a young Jean Grey.

While those are all good to decent actresses, Sophie Turner definitely resembles to comic book heroine the most. Fortunately, she's got the acting chops to back up her looks too; Turner's given great, layered performances as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones over the course of four seasons that has done nothing but keep her acting draft stock high. I think she deserves her chance at a breakout role.

However, along with Sophie Turner, another great actress has been reported to be in FOX's eye for the telekinetic prodigy. Saoirse Ronan (Hanna, The Lovely Bones) has been tapped for a role in X-Men: Apocalypse, purportedly for Jean Grey, though is she a better choice?

Who would be the better Jean Grey? Sophie or Saoirse?

Saoirse has more accolades and acting experience no doubt, but perhaps she's testing to play another mutant...Polaris maybe? I say this as wishful thinking because having both Saoirse (pronounced sir-sha) and Sophie in an X-Men movie together would be AWESOME!

To round out the rest of the recent X-Men casting rumors, here's the shortlist of actors FOX is currently testing for a young Cyclops: Tye Sheridan, Taron Egerton, and Jamie Blackley. All are relatively new to Hollywood.

Taron Egerton seems to be the favorite here, as the general consensus surrounding his performance in Kingsman: The Secret Service (due out next month) seems to be pretty favorable. He'd be my pick!

Would you cast Taron Egerton (below) as the young Scott Summers, a.k.a. Cyclops?

For the younger Storm, FOX is reportedly testing actresses Alexandra Shipp and Zendaya Coleman. Both are relative unknowns with some TV acting cred. Personally, I'd hoped FOX and Singer would go after Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years A Slave) for the role and reunite the young actress with her Star Wars Episode VII castmate, Oscar Isaac. Also, Lupita looks amazing as Storm. Like, really...really amazing. Check it:

Who would you cast as the younger Ororo Munroe, a.k.a. Storm?

All that aside, I want to focus on Sophie Turner here; I really feel she is definitely the right choice to portray a young Jean Grey, and continue the role moving forward. On May 27, 2016 when X-Men: Apocalypse is released, hopefully we'll be seeing the young Game of Thrones star on the big screen portraying the beginnings of one of the most powerful mutants in X-Men lore. But what do you think?

Would Sophie Turner make a great Jean Grey, and a potentially great Phoenix?
