The first half of The Walking Dead's fifth season introduced some fascinating new villains, killed a whole bunch of characters and in general got darker than ever. Now the show is poised to return on Feb. 8, and the latest trailer reveals the group will be focused on "surviving together."

The trailer features Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his rag-tag group fighting their way through a foggy forest, with Rick reminding them all via voiceover that “surviving together is all that matters.” We see Michonne (Danai Gurira) draw her trademark samurai sword in preparation for a fight, along with Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Glen (Steven Yeun), and Daryl (Norman Reedus) laying down some serious firepower.

At the conclusion of the Nov. 30 midseason finale, Rick and the others were at a crossroads. With Eugene revealing that he lied about knowing how to cure the zombie disease, the group finds itself without a home or a purpose. Now they must traverse the open wilderness, living day to day and fighting for their very survival.

Here’s the logline for the second half of The Walking Dead Season 5:

After the tragic events of the mid-season finale – as well as losing the possibility of a cure in Washington, DC – Rick Grimes’ band of survivors find themselves on the road, surviving day-to-day and trying to hold on to their shredded humanity and dwindling hope. Stripped of security and without a direction for the future, some of the group near their breaking point, some find themselves hardened and cold and some just try to grasp onto what little they have left.
Though they are still breathing, the line between Rick’s group and the dead is starting to blur. Could there be anything at this point that brings them back to life?

Fans of the series will also recall that Rick’s former ally, Morgan (Lennie James), has been getting closer and closer to finding his group. A post-credit scene in the midseason finale featured Morgan arriving at the church just after Rick and the others had departed. Though it seemed unlikely their paths would cross, Morgan finds a map bearing Rick’s name, hinting that he may finally catch up to them in the second half of [The Walking Dead](series:201193) Season 5.

“The Walking Dead” premieres Sunday, Feb. 8 at 9 p.m.
