So if you haven't already seen it, the new Avengers 2: Age of Ultron trailer was released today! It's a thrilling closer look at what we'll be seeing in May, when the film hits theaters! Now of course me, being a huge fan of crackpot theories and wild speculations, had to analyse it to come up with a crazy fan theory for you all to hate and/or enjoy! The theory I have for you today is—Tony Stark's true intentions for activating the villainous Ultron!
The premise of the film states that Tony Stark found the remains of Ultron in the wreckage of the battle of New York. He takes the remains back to his lab and begins working on them, trying to build Ultron to top form! Unfortunately, Ultron goes bonkers and tries to kill everything in his path! Sort of a big oopsie daisy on Tony's part.
But why did Tony decide to complete Ultron. You could say that he did it out of curiosity, seeing the near-destroyed robot body as a challenge. But after everything him and the other Avengers have been through, the battle of New York, Loki, Killian etc; I highly doubt that Tony would let his curiosity run that wild. Especially when it comes to unknown robotic software found within the wreckage of a battle that he was a part of.
So what other reason would Tony Stark have to build Ultron? Well, obviously he does so to protect the people of earth from danger. But what danger? Tony and his super-pals have already taken out an entire race of aliens, you would think Tony would have more confidence in himself and his team. But here's the thing, we've already seen that he's lost confidence in himself in [Iron Man 3](movie:24391), when he was stressful and suffering from anxiety attacks.
As shown in the video below, the mere mention of the events that went down in [The Avengers](movie:9040) cause Tony to suffer from anxiety. And did you see how quickly he answered when the kid asked him if the aliens are coming back? It's clear he's afraid that they will. After all, the battle of New York was the biggest battle Tony's ever been in. The city was almost completely destroyed, and no doubt the body count was huge. Tony made Ultron out of guilt and fear; he was afraid that he and his friends wouldn't be enough to protect this world. But as I said before, they took down a whole army! I get that due to his anxiety, Tony might have some self-doubt; but why would he doubt a team consisting of two super-spies, an angry giant, a super soldier and an ancient god-like warrior?!
Well, the reason for his doubts in his team's capabilities may have been revealed in the recent Avengers 2 trailer. In the trailer, for about a second, we see a mysterious woman in a cave.
Now I'm sure there are already tons of theories as to who she is, but to me, she looks like Moondragon!
Moondragon, for those who don't know, is a character in the Marvel universe. Her real name is Heather Douglas, daughter of Arthur Douglas. That name sound familiar? Well that makes sense, if you read the [Guardians of the Galaxy](movie:424073) comic books. But if you don't read the comics, then you won't know Arthur by his real name. But, if you've seen the film, you might know him by the name Drax the Destroyer!
Yes, Moondragon is Drax's daughter. So if that really is her in the trailer, what would she be doing there? Well first off, let's establish the obvious notion that Tony Stark and his friends now know there is intelligent life out there. There's of course Thor, but he's a friendly, so his existence merely shocked the others, not intimidated them. But then, here comes Loki with his army of Chitauri, an intelligent (I'm using that word lightly) alien race modeled for war. Tony and his friends now know there's an entire RACE of crazy, blood-thirsty monsters out there! And they have Earth's zip code!
But what the Avengers don't know is that the Chitauri are not the only psycho aliens out there! Not by a longshot! But how could they know, there's no one there, save the secret-keeping S.H.I.E.L.D, that knows enough about the galaxy to inform them of the many other dangerous aliens with a personal vendetta towards Earth. Or is there?
Yes, Moondragon! I think that if the girl in the video really is Moondragon, that she came to Earth to warn its strongest inhabitants. Warn them of what you ask? The wrath of Thanos of course! As seen in Guardian's of the Galaxy, Ronan the Accuser is working for Thanos. Ronan is a member of the Kree race. In GotG, Ronan is defeated by the Guardians, who consist of a talking racoon and his tree partner of few words, a deadly alien assassin, a male deadly alien assassin and a human. Thanos himself, though not in the battle of New York, allowed Loki to use his Chitauri army. The army however, was defeated; by a team consisting of (more or less) humans. So Thanos' plans have been indirectly foiled by humans on two occasions, his army and his strongest warrior defeated by these creatures that were once isolated from the goings on of the rest of the galaxy. It's pretty obvious he's a little ticked.
But Thanos isn't the only one who's suffered a blow from the human race! The Kree have also been humiliated. Yes it's true, they denounced any connection with the traitorous Ronan the Accuser! But the Kree are a proud race, and no doubt news that one of their own was defeated by a mere mortal with no powers or special abilities whatsoever traveled fast among their home planet. I think Thanos used this opportunity to convince the Kree that Earth is enemy #1!
So now we have the Kree, Thanos and any remaining Chitauri he might have! Not to mention the fact that Loki, disguised as Odin, sits upon the throne of Asgard and it's only a matter of time before his true colors show. Though many Asgardian's, like Sif, will not follow his tyrannic rule, loyal Asgardians will follow their king into battle. With Loki's ties to Thanos, he'll most likely join his crusade. Especially since he cost Thanos a huge chunk of his army, joining Thanos might be the only thing keeping him alive.
So now we have a fearsome army consisting of Asgardians, Kree and Chitauri—all under the cold rule of Thanos! Moondragon has come to Earth to warn the Avengers of a war. A war that they started and her father (and the rest of the Guardians) sparked. Which war?
The Infinity War! Moondragon is trying to warn Tony Stark of the biggest event they will ever face! So what's Tony's solution? Well, since he's already suffering from anxiety, he most likely panics and frustratingly begins searching for something that could protect the earth. So, while searching through S.H.I.E.L.D's lost and found (because who else would have a world saving device?), Tony comes upon some wrecked robot parts recovered from the battle of NY. He analyzes it and comes up with the idea to fix the robot and massively re-produce him. He needs enough of the robot, Ultron, to take on the super army coming their way! That's a lot of Ultrons!
What Tony didn't anticipate, was the Ultrons going crazy and turning on him! So now the Ultrons are trying to destroy the human race, Tony obviously feels guilty for it. All he wanted to do was protect the human race, but his frantic idea caused even more death and despair! This causes him to start and support the Superhero Registration Act, causing yet another war! Since this is a theory about Tony Stark's reasoning for building Ultron, I won't get into the Civil War much here. But, here's an old article of mine where I do get into it!
So there you have it! Tony Stark created Ultron as a means to prepare for war! After getting a warning from Moondragon, who could even also be the piece of the puzzle that connects the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy, Stark unknowingly tinkers with a corrupt A.I.! But don't blame him, he's been through a lot in his career as a superhero!
Nevertheless, this means that Ultron is the reason for all the chaos that the MCU is about to experience. And unfortunately, and indirectly, so is Tony!
What do you guys think of my theory?
And if you like theory's check out this one by Rose Moore where she theorizes that the lady in the trailer is someone other than Moondragon! Make sure to follow me and follow her if you like either of our fantastic articles!
