Fans of the Mafia series received some interesting news recently about the potential for an additional entry into the popular action series. Mafia 3 was teased for announcement in 2015 by voice actor Rick Pasqualone, the man behind the voice of Vito Scaletta in Mafia II just a few days ago. Could it be? Could we see a third entry in the near future from 2K games?!
With their dark and brooding world, Mafia and Mafia II have garnered a great following in the industry, and it's not all that dissimilar from Rockstar's great game from 2011; L.A. Noire. If you had the option to select between L.A. Noire 2 and Mafia 3, which title would you pick?!
Mafia 3 vs L.A. Noire 2 - 2015 Release Date?!
Both of these games are set around the same time on opposite sides of the US. They draw from those years in terms of style, music but also in terms of cinematic tropes and visuals. L.A. Noire is the most apparent example in this case, with its themes and style being taken directly from the Film Noir period in American cinema. Mafia, on the other hand, pays its respects to the great mafia films of cinema history, most notably The Godfather.
Each of them are set in an open world, though Mafia II certainly exhibits more freedom than L.A. Noire, which can keep the player on a tight leash. The greatest draws to these two titles, are their settings and their story-lines. Mafia was a gripping tale of betrayal and power, whereas L.A. Noire was a dark title filled with twists and turns in a murderous environment.
Now, as far as 2015 goes, it's probably one of the most exciting years for gaming we could possibly imagine, with so many developers and publishers still concealing games that could be released. Seeing as Rockstar has had one big release every single year for the last while, with 2014 featuring the exceptional remastering of GTA V (basically a whole new game), we can expect to see something from them this year. But what will it be?
It could transpire that we receive a sequel to L.A. Noire, or maybe even Max Payne 4, or Red Dead Redemption 2. For more on this, check out this article - Red Dead Redemption 2 - Rockstar's Surprise Game?
But if presented with a choice, would you prefer to see Mafia make a come back with a third instalment? Would you want it to pick up from where the last title left us hanging?! There is great potential for the story to continue, and with the voice actor of the previous protagonist seemingly having some info, I think we may be jumping back into that story once more.
My constant fascination with uncovering fan bases for franchises now leads to this ultimate moment. Which game would you pick gamers: L.A. Noire 2, or Mafia 3?! Cast your votes and happy gaming!
