The Just Cause series is famous for one thing, and one thing only: insanity. In every sense of the word, this game just oozes with it. And that's why we freakin' love it. Just Cause 3 has not yet received an official release date for PC, PS4 and Xbox One from Avalanche Studios and Square Enix, but we'll be sure to keep an eye out!
But now we need to know. Can these guys actually raise the bar after the complete madness we witnessed in Just Cause 2?! Can they actually take it up another level and blow our collective minds in ways we never thought possible?! Well, let's see what they have to beat!
Just Cause 3 - How Crazy Can You Go?
I recall playing Just Cause on PC many a year ago, a friend of mine had introduced it to me. I recall how strange this Rodrigo character ran, how the physics didn't make sense, how OH MY GOD I CAN ATTACH MYSELF TO A HELICOPTER! You know, the general reactions to Just Cause.
And then I saw Just Cause 2 come out and was delighted that the world had clearly shared my elation. I'll never forget watching that opening sequence and listening to the dialogue thinking...are they serious? Also, the voice acting was horrendous!! But then, I realised that I had forgotten what I was playing.
It was so refreshing to play a title that wasn't concerned with reality. That wasn't trying to make the most incredible, deep experience you could ever want from an open world game. All it was trying to do was give you the power to cause havoc, and laugh every step of the way. I can still hear how he says, as he scrambles to his feet "Aye, Santa Maria!" after plummeting toward the ground and face planting into a road.
It was a game I could play with a group of friends and even when one person had the controller, I could still enjoy every second of watching them. A rare occurrence for me. But can Just Cause 3 increase the madness without seeming like too much of the same thing?!
They've said that the world is of similar size to the one they presented us with in Just Cause 2, only that the verticality of this world has drastically increased! Higher and higher and lower and lower. We can reach the highest mountains and plummet into underground caverns, something completely new!
The parachute and grapple hook are getting some great new upgrades and I can't wait to see what they'll have me do. But there is one scene that they are going to have to top. And I don't see how that's going to be physically possible. Much like this video...just not physically possible! Skip to about 1.09 ;) Warning! Ending Spoilers!
So what do you guys think?! Can Just Cause 3 actually go beyond the insanity of Just Cause 2 and show us all that Avalanche Studios know how to keep things interesting and equally insane in JC? We'll have to wait for Just Cause 3's release date for Xbox One, PS4 and PC to find out!
