Early last year the Internet was abuzz for a minute when Vampire Diaries star Steven R. McQueen, grandson of Hollywood legend Steve McQueen (The Magnificent Seven, Bullit, Wanted: Dead or Alive) tweeted a picture of himself in the gym with the caption "Nightwing training." At first, it was speculated that McQueen might have been cast as the former Robin for [Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice](movie:711870), which was in the midst of casting and announcing new characters every day. That was later proven to be false, but the rumour mill seems to be at it again and this time it may actually be possible.

Steven McQueen is leaving [The Vampire Diaries](series:200853), and his departure from the series seems to have been an abrupt decision, especially since TVD has officially been renewed for another season (there was some speculation previous that this would be its final season). It is being speculated that McQueen is leaving the show when he is to film the Titans pilot, finally being able to suit up as the former Batman sidekick. Warner Bros, especially where the CW is concerned, seems to have a track record of keeping the same stable of actors rotating from series to series, so moving McQueen from TVD to [Titans](series:2265361) isn't an unprecedented notion, even though Titans is set to be on TNT and not CW, but as of right now nothing is confirmed.

To add some more flames to the rumor fire, Vampire Diaries Executive Producer Julie Plec told the Hollywood Reporter that, “He’ll always be welcome to join us for important events — unless he finally gets his wish to play a superhero and he’s unavailable.” It has been no secret to fans of McQueen that he has been lobbying hard for this part and that Nightwing is his favorite superhero. Coming from the acting stock he's got swimming around in his genes, McQueen certainly has the chops to exude [Nightwing](movie:1069726)'s natural charisma, as well as the physique to fill out Nightwing's tights. Only time will tell if this is true or not, but I can personally get on board with him playing Nightwing and look forward to seeing this rumor finally confirmed.
