Mass Effect 4 is a long way from us concerning its release date for Xbox One and PS4, but with an exciting post from Bioware themselves, we may actually get to see a Shepard Mass Effect Trilogy for NextGen consoles before its release! Could these two have new connections with one another?
A while back, Mass Effect fans were treated to a great post by Aaryn Flynn, general manager of the BioWare Studio. He asked members of the NeoGAF forums to help him ideate a 'wish-list' for a remastered edition of the Mass Effect Trilogy. He also wrote down his personal interests in such a remake. Naturally, they are pretty sweet.
1,080p & 60fps
High resolution textures, especially on ME1
Some shader improvements commensurate with newer GPUs
All the DLC
"Seamless experience": the adventures flow into each other without having to go back to save import, menu screens, etc.
Well, I'd already buy it! But in order to keep up with the likes of 343's work with Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Rockstar's sublime efforts with GTA V on Xbox One and PS4, they'll have to devise a new element for the games that we can all enjoy. Should we be able to flick back and forth between new and old graphics? Should first person be implemented? What would you like to see?
Personally, similar to what 343 did with Halo 2, I'd love to see some further connections with Mass Effect 4 implemented into the titles, particularly when it comes to Mass Effect 3. Perhaps even the ending could get a little tweak or more information could be granted like the terminals we get in Halo 2.
I certainly don't want Bioware to change the ending once more, that would go against the whole idea of remastering the games. But some kind of forward look to the rest of the series would be much appreciated! Also, I'd love to be able to carry over all of the minerals and such that I discover from game to game.
It seems pretty clear that Bioware are considering the Mass Effect remastered trilogy. It's worked for so many companies and if it was released just before Mass Effect 4, it would be a tremendous way to build up hype and seamlessly transfer save files from the one console. I'm sure it will happen, though some have stated that the trilogy would be released after ME4.
I really feel this would be a bad move on Bioware's part, especially when it comes to revenue. Why would we go back and buy a remastered collection after playing ME4? Assumedly it will also come with some kind of bonus for the game, like the Halo 5 Beta access in the Master Chief Collection.
So, how about it ME fans? What would you like to see from the future of the Mass Effect series? Oh and speaking of the future of ME, have you seen that we could be playing as Shepard's child in Mass Effect 4? So exciting!
Until ME4's release date we'll have a lot of speculating to do for the planned Xbox One and PS4 title, let's hope 2015 features a lot of new info and trailers!
