The 2015 Oscar Nominations are in! I will mark my personal picks with a * and my actual predictions with a #, so lets take a look

I will list the nominations in the order they were presented by directors JJ Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity):

Best Original Song:

-"Everything Is Awesome" - THE LEGO MOVIE

-"Glory" - SELMA #

-"Grateful" - BEYOND THE LIGHTS

-"I'm Not Gonna Miss You" - GLEN CAMPBELL....I'LL BE ME

-"Lost Stars" - BEGIN AGAIN *

"Glory" from Selma seems to be getting all of the attention and it is a very powerful song, but my pick is "Lost Stars" from the film Begin Again. Very happy to see "Everything Is Awesome" nominated.

Best Visual Effects:

-CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

-DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

-GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

-INTERSTELLAR *#

-X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

I think Interstellar has to win this award, its a truly breathtaking achievement in the Visual Effects department.

Best Documentary - Short Subject:

-CRISIS HOTLINE: VETERAN PRESS 1

-JOANNA

-OUR CURSE

-THE REAPER (La Parka)

-WHITE EARTH

Best Documentary Feature:

-CITIZENFOUR

-FINDING VIVIAN MAIER

-LAST DAYS IN VIETNAM

-THE SALT OF THE EARTH

-VIRUNGA

I was personally rooting for "Life Itself" to be nominated, the documentary about film critic Roger Ebert.

Film Editing:

-AMERICAN SNIPER

-BOYHOOD

-THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL

-THE IMITATION GAME

-WHIPLASH*#

I was expecting Birdman to be nominated because the edits in the film are so unnoticeable, Boyhood seems like a great choice though as the film transitions perfectly between years.

Sound Editing:

-AMERICAN SNIPER

-BIRDMAN or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) *#

-THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES

-INTERSTELLAR

-UNBROKEN

The sound in Birdman was just exceptional, from the music to the dialogue, it all sounded great and fit great.

Sound Mixing:

-AMERICAN SNIPER

-BIRDMAN or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)

-INTERSTELLAR

-UNBROKEN

-WHIPLASH*#

Again, I'm going with Birdman, the sound was phenomenal.

Production Design:

-THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL *#

-THE IMITATION GAME

-INTERSTELLAR

-INTO THE WOODS

-MR TURNER

Wes Anderson is known for his incredible production design and Grand Budapest Hotel was probably his best yet.

Best Live Action Short Film:

-AYA

-BOOGALO AND GRAHAM

-BUTTER LAMP

-PARVANEH

-THE PHONE CALL

Best Animated Short Film:

-THE BIGGER PICTURE

-THE DAM KEEPER

-FEAST

-ME AND MY MOULTON

-A SINGLE LIFE

Best Animated Feature Film:

-BIG HERO 6

-THE BOXTROLLS

-HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2

-SONG OF THE SEA

-THE TALE OF PRINCESS KAGUYA

Where is "The LEGO Movie"?! Boxtrolls was good but I don't believe it should be nominated.

Best Supporting Actor:

-Robert Duvall - THE JUDGE

-Ethan Hawke - BOYHOOD

-Edward Norton - BIRDMAN or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)

-Mark Ruffalo - FOXCATCHER

-J.K Simmons - WHIPLASH *#

Robert Duvall was a surprise nomination but I believe this is going to J.K Simmons, I am seeing Whiplash in a few days so I can comment surely then but he seems like the obvious choice. My pick for now is Edward Norton who really blew me away in Birdman.

Best Supporting Actress:

-Patricia Arquette - BOYHOOD *#

-Laura Dern - WILD

-Keira Knightley - THE IMITATION GAME

-Emma Stone - BIRDMAN or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)

-Meryl Streep - INTO THE WOODS

Of course Streep got nominated even though her performance in "Into The Woods" is no where near Oscar level. Patricia Arquette is going to win this one, but I thought Emma Stone in Birdman was exceptional!

Best Makeup and Hairstyling:

-FOXCATCHER *#

-THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL

-GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

The makeup and hair in Foxcatcher transformed Steve Carell into the character of John Du Pont.

Costume Design:

-THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL*

-INHERENT VICE

-INTO THE WOODS #

-MALEFICENT

-MR TURNER

The costumes in Into The Woods were incredibly detailed and beautiful but every single thing in The Grand Budapest Hotel looked like a perfect picture, costumes included.

Cinematography:

-BIRDMAN or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) *#

-THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL

-IDA

-MR TURNER

-UNBROKEN

One of the most impressive aspects of Birdman is its breathtaking cinematography.

Best Adapted Screenplay:

-AMERICAN SNIPER

-THE IMITATION GAME

-INHERENT VICE

-THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING#

-WHIPLASH*

I am astonished that "Gone Girl" isn't on this list, which was my pick, but otherwise I'll go with "The Imitation Game" which had a very nice script.

Best Original Screenplay:

-BIRDMAN or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) *

-BOYHOOD #

-FOXCATCHER

-THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL

-NIGHTCRAWLER

This was a tough one, Boyhood's everyday conversation script was just incredible but Birdman was such a miraculously inventive idea and the dialogue was astounding.

Best Original Score:

-THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL - Alexandre Desplat

-THE IMITATION GAME - Alexandre Desplat

-INTERSTELLAR - Hans Zimmer *

-MR TURNER - Gary Yershon

-THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING - Johann Johannsson #

Hans Zimmer's score for "Interstellar" was scary, emotional and beautiful. But I fear that the Academy will go with the less impressive "Theory Of Everything" score which also won the Golden Globe.

Best Foreign Language Film:

-IDA

-LEVIATHAN

-TANGERINES

-TIMBUKTU

-WILD TALES

Best Director:

-Alejandro G. Innaritu - BIRDMAN or (The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance) *

-Richard Linklater - BOYHOOD #

-Bennett Miller - FOXCATCHER

-Wes Anderson - THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL

-Morten Tyldum - THE IMITATION GAME

I'm disappointed David Fincher wasn't nominated for "Gone Girl" but this was always between Linklater and Innaritu, both fantastic directing efforts!

Best Lead Actress:

-Marion Cotillard - TWO DAYS, ONE NIGHT

-Felicity Jones - THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING

-Julianne Moore - STILL ALICE #

-Rosamund Pike - GONE GIRL *

-Reese Witherspoon - WILD

Thank god Rosamund Pike was nominated, she seemed like the obvious pick a few months back but now all the attention has drifted towards Julianne Moore.

Best Lead Actor:

-Steve Carell - FOXCATCHER

-Bradley Cooper - AMERICAN SNIPER

-Benedict Cumberbatch - THE IMITATION GAME

-Michael Keaton - BIRDMAN or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) *#

-Eddie Redmayne - THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING

Very shocked with the Bradley Cooper nomination. All these performances are fantastic but I'm going with Keaton, he was flawless in Birdman.

Best Picture:

-AMERICAN SNIPER

-BIRDMAN or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) *

-BOYHOOD #

-THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL

-THE IMITATION GAME

-SELMA

-THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING

-WHIPLASH

I believe this is easily between Birdman and Boyhood, and I would not be disappointed if either of them won. I would in fact be incredibly disappointed if a film like "The Theory Of Everything" won, which is a good film, but incredibly overrated. Really shocked at the lack of "Gone Girl" in this category as well.
