What could be more relaxing than a luxurious soak in the tub? Nothing, unless your lovely bubble bath is interrupted by a lunatic with knife fingers, or a blood-frenzied countess, or the very spirit of death itself...

There are tons of great horror movie bathtub scenes - the iconic Nightmare on Elm Street moment, The Shining, From A Whisper To A Scream and Blind Terror get honorable mentions - but here are 5 of my favorites...

1. I Spit on Your Grave (1977)

One of the greatest castration scenes from the golden era of video nasties, there's never been a more deserving candidate for this brutal bathtime gorefest.

2. The Toolbox Murders (1976)

An attractive young lady pleasures herself in a hot, soapy bath... before being brutally murdered in Tobe Hooper's The Toolbox Murders.

3. Final Destination (2000)

The finest moment in the first installment of the evil-Tom-and-Jerry / domino effect horror Final Destination sees this poor guy strangled with a shower cord as his feet slip uselessly around the tub. Brutal.

4. Slaughter High (1985)

The ever-subtle effects of the 1980s come to the fore here. If you want a more realistic, scientific study of the effects of an acid bath on the human body, look elsewhere!

5. Hostel II (2007)

That poor goofy kid from Welcome to the Dollhouse is slashed to bits so that a deranged old pervert - possibly some relation to Elizabeth Bathory - can bathe in her virgin blood. Not exactly nice, but the jewel in the crown of the surprisingly excellent sequel to torture porn extravaganza Hostel.

Aw, OK, let's have the classic Nightmare on Elm Street bathtub scene again...

I mean, if you HAD to be murdered, would you rather be murdered in the bath or the shower?
