Fresh from prison, a street racer who was framed by a wealthy business associate joins a cross country race with revenge in mind. His ex-partner, learning of the plan, places a massive bounty on his head as the race begins.
Need for Speed was a movie that I thought would be a rip off of the Fast and Furious... I WAS DEAD WRONG. This one movie leaves the Fast and Furious franchise in the dust and it’s hard not to compare the two. I'm not a car or racing junkie by any means, but I loved this film.
Besides Aaron Paul and Michael Keaton there are not a lot of big named actors in this film which I enjoyed mostly because their names don’t over power the movie. At first all I could think of is Aaron Paul as Jessie Pinkmen but that quickly went away and he becomes the character. Michael Keaton mannerisms and intensity at times reminded me of Beetle Juice but it didn't take me out of the film. The way the whole cast interacts together makes you believe that they are lifelong friends and have history together which something I never felt in other high action car movies.
This movie is pedal to the floor action with lots of the high speed car racing and the stunts are heart pounding and high adrenaline moments. Yes, at times it feels like you should be playing it a video game but this film is based off of a game franchise so it's not a shock. The choice to do real car stunts and no C.G.I. for them makes this movie a treasure and rare in this day and age.
The story is predictable and the ending falls flat but they leave it open for a sequel. I personally would rather watch Need for Speed then any of Fast and Furious movies. If you’re in the mood for an intense racing film you defiantly want to check out Need for Speed. Cheers and remember life won’t suck as long as there is a good movie to watch
