If you've ever read Thomas Harris' novel Red Dragon (or watched 2002's movie adaptation of the same name), then you know that Francis Dolarhyde, a.k.a. The Tooth Fairy Killer, is, other than Hannibal Lecter, FBI profiler Will Graham's greatest nemesis.
So it stands to reason that we'd see him show up sooner or later to antagonize Graham on NBC's [Hannibal](series:721010) series. Indeed, The Wrap reports that Hobbit star Richard Armitage is set to join the cast as the Tooth Fairy Killer in the fourth season of the taut thriller. While most audiences only recognize him as this
I'd guess that for his Hannibal role, he'll go back to looking like his usual self, closer to this:
...with the addition, of course, of the giant dragon tattoo on his back.
The very cool thing is that creator Bryan Fuller had already planned on bringing the character of Dolarhyde into the series in season 4 back when when the show first started, so he and writers have had three full seasons to think about storylines and character development. While he has extensive television experience under his belt with British series, after coming off such blockbuster success with the Hobbit franchise, it's curious that Armitage is making the jump back to television. Clearly, there's something about the role that intrigued him enough to move to the American small screen, so I'm very interested to see how they bring Dolarhyde to life.
We may have to wait a while to see Dolarhyde fully revealed, however. While his character will be introduced in this upcoming third season, his story won't truly be explored until the fourth.
Hannibal comes back for season 3 on February 28th.
Do you think Richard Armitage is the right choice to play the Tooth Fairy Killer?
