Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is still one of the most anticipated games for 2105, and Konami and Hideo Kojima are really holding onto that release date information for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. So, while we wait for more from Konami, we've got a lot of speculating to do. Kojima is well known for pulling some serious pranks around his games, so could David Hayter actually be in MGS5?!
For many, it's difficult to imagine the great Snake with a different voice. Having not jumped into Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes yet, I can't fully comment on Keifer Sutherland's performance just yet. But having seen several clips and the opening to the game...it is still Snake. The character is still there and the expressions on his face bring us ever closer to who this man really is.
This title really could be the definitive game in the whole series, though it'll be tough to beat Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater for me. But one thing we can't wait to see, are the jokes and surprises that Kojima will have lined up before the release date of MGS5.
David Hayter in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
There was genuine shock and almost outrage once it was announced that David Hayter would not be reprising the role of Snake, or Big Boss, in Metal Gear Solid 5. But after listening to Kojima, I think people can respect the decisions that the man has made in terms of progressing the series.
Snake needed to be more emotive, even when compared with Metal Gear Solid IV. Kojima has adored watching these characters progress through time, developing a deeper understanding for the characters he has created has been a journey for both himself and for us. And what a journey it has been! But there could be a way that I could see this whole David Hayter thing going down.
Number 1 is that David Hayter actually plays Solid Snake. The timeline would work and we'd be treated to getting Big Boss voiced by Sutherland and then Hayter playing the iconic Solid Snake. The clones of Big Boss could be created in this title, which would be incredible to see! But what if it's even bigger, and Kojima was kidding us all along?
What if we were treated to a moment like we saw in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, when Snake removed his Raiden mask to reveal we were not going to playing as Raiden again but that we were back in control of good old Snake (or so we thought!). Imagine if all of Ground Zeroes was an elaborate jest. What if Sutherland was only hired for GZ and not The Phantom Pain?
Or even crazier, that David Hayter would voice over all of his dialogue!! Sutherland would say something as Snake and then he'd clear his throat and it would be Hayter's voice!! See, this is what Kojima does to you! His amazing ability to play with audience expectations leaves us completely in the dark in terms of what to expect. We end up coming up with some seriously outlandish ideas. We all know that there will be a great many surprises in store for us in MGS5, but could they be anything as drastic as this?!
In terms of likelihood, the Solid Snake David Hayter option is more likely. In fact Hayter gave a kind of weird response on Twitter recently when he was asked about his potential role in the upcoming title: "I'm not 'not allowed' to not tell anyone about anything." Now, he could just be pulling us all along for the ride, but when it comes to Kojima, you really could have anything!
So what do you guys think? Will David Hayter lend his glorious voice to Snake once more in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain? Will the release date be at the end of 2015? Let us know what you think the future for MGS holds in store!
