When I was a kid I used to love getting my face painted and freaking people out at dress-up parties or Halloween (I mean, I still kinda do...). Sadly, my artistic talent does not stretch that far and my face never turned out as good as these mind-blowing creations.

I'm sure you'll agree that these special paint effects are border-line terrifying and much more effective than wearing a mask!

Just take a look!

1. The girl with the million-dollar smile

The Cheshire cat comes alive! (Source)

2. Whoa! There's an alien in my closet!

It's crazy how some contouring can completely transform a face shape. (Source)

3. Black rose

Where are the eyes!? There is so much detail in this one that it must have taken hours to perfect. And imagine taking it all off... (Source)

4. Crazy contact lens!

If you don't have much time to do your whole face, why not just do half? Works just as well. (Source)

5. Lost eye

Walking around with a gaping hole in your eye socket is not for the squeamish. Personally, I don't think I could handle it. (Source)

6. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?"

Don't you think the fake eyes look more realistic than the real ones? I would totally freak if I saw this person randomly on the street. (Source)

7. An awesome 'pop art' creation (less scary but still super cool!)

Imagine having to draw every single one of those dots... one... by... one... (Source)

8. "E. T. phone home!"

Brilliant costume from one of my favorite films! Also could look like a character from Planet of the Apes. (Source)

9. MASSIVE mouth

I genuinely have no words... this is unbelievable. (Source)

10. Dragon

For designs like this, surely you have to keep your eyes shut the whole time to make it work? (Source)

11. Evil Witch & her red apple

Go on... take a bite! (Source)

So for next Halloween, do you think YOUR face painting skills can beat these designs?

Do you prefer to use face paint or play it safe with a mask?
