One film to rule them all...
A disgruntled Tolkien fan has created the ultimate, slimmed down version of the Hobbit trilogy directed by Peter Jackson. Feeling that the trilogy's length had prevented the franchise from being as good as it could, tolkieneditor has taken matters into their own hands and come up with a shortened version dubbed the 'Tolkien edit'.
Not panning the trilogy completely, tolkieneditor makes sure to clarify that they did 'enjoy many aspects of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy', however they did feel that 'the story was spoiled by an interminable running time, unengaging plot tangents and constant narrative filibustering.'
Tolkieneditor decided to focus on the main protagonist of the story and the narrative arc of Bilbo Baggins. Below are some of the main differences:
- Tauriel - Kili - Legolas love triangle has been removed, along with Tauriel completely.
- Pale Orc Subplot largely slimmed down
- Prelude with Old Bilbo removed
- Several of the action scenes, including the Battle of the Five armies and the fight between the Dwarves and Smaug! (No molten gold!)
Tolkieneditor wanted to re-center the story around Bilbo Baggins and allow the narrative to flow at a much brisker pace. Thus spawning this awesome 4 hour version that closely resembles the narrative of Tolkien's novel.
