These vintage photos are called cabinet cards which were very popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s. While the production of cabinet cards has plummeted in the last 100 years or so, they've become a point of interest again thanks to the help of artist Colin Batty from the Peculiarium oddities museum in Portland, Oregon. Colin Batty created 100 images to display at the museum in a show titled "Meet the Family" which later inspired a book of the same name.

The following photos might look like they've had the help of some crafty computer editing, but Batty actually creates these images with a brush and some acrylic paint. These bizarre works of art tell are interesting and creepy enough of a story to be made into short horror movies. Check out some of our favorites below:

1. Vampire Girl

Little kids are frightening enough. Now put a pair of bat wings on them? Nope.

2. Brainiac and Son

Not even can that glorious mustache distract from the small alien-ish figure growing in his brain.

3. Two Ladies and a Thing

I reiterate my sentiments towards children in number one, but double goes for demonic children.

4. Bug Ladies

I'm a woman and I can say with certainty that we're pretty intimidating. Now imagine an ant-woman who can carry 100 times her body weight. Scary or impressive?

5. Dino Lady

Probably no relation to Doctor Who's Madam Vastra, but you never can know for sure.

6. Girl and Frank

Is this a Donnie Darko reference or some dark, twisted retelling of The Velveteen Rabbit? Either way, no thank you.

7. The Root of Evil

In the battle between deforestation and this woman building a new house, neither party won.

8. Fembot

I don't think machine gun jubblies were invented yet, but we know her head detaches. So, that's something.

9. Double Headed Dude

When is this Edward Mordake film finally going to be made? This famous human marvel needs his own movie already!

10. Mr. Brundle

Carefully named by Batty after Jeff Goldblum's character from the 1986 scifi horror The Fly. Someone please make a Victorian era version of this movie!

11. Watched Closely

Mike Wazowski, is that you?

12. Mrs. Carver and Company

Absolutely not. This is my nightmare! I mean, talk about taking advantage of a relationship.
