I'm not afraid to admit that since Friends joined the Netflix ranks on January 1, my free time has essentially been one massive TV binge. Since I can hear through the paper-thin walls of my apartment, I can say with certainty that my roommate and my neighbors have been doing the same thing.
Due to this seemingly non-stop stream of Friends watching, I've probably heard that intro song well over 100 times (seriously, I'm almost done with season 6 already). You know the one, "I'll Be There for You" by the Rembrandts, featuring the most famous four claps in TV history. At this point, I could go years without hearing that intro again, and I'd be content.
After watching/listening to that, I can say that I'm glad we have the music because without it I feel very strange and conflicted.
The only thing I can think of that matches the Friends intro without music in both hilarity and awkwardness is the 90s fashion choices.
In honor of that fact, there are a few of the characters' best worst outfits:
Rachel Green - The One With the Bridesmaid Dress
As if attending your ex-fiancé's wedding isn't bad enough, Rachel had to do it in this unforgettable getup.
Ross Geller - The One With the Matching Shirts
This was one date that we knew wouldn't end in marriage for Ross.
Monica Geller - The One With the Cornrows
Not quite fashion, but still a stylistic choice. This was one of easily one of Monica's best decisions (for us viewers, at least), until her hair got stuck on a the shower curtain. Whoops!
Joey Tribbiani - The One With Joey's Bag
Fully equipped with fake credit cards and sandwich holding pockets! Joey's unisex bag was one for the books, just not for auditions.
Phoebe Buffay - The One With the Maternity Santa Pants
Pheobe was easily the most fashionable pregnant lady in the tri-state area. You'd better agree or she'll put you on the naughty list.
Chandler Bing - The One With the Ichiban Lipstick
A man of many vests and bowling t-shirts, Chandler is the best worst offender of them all!
Who did this to you, Miss Chanandler Bong? WHO?
These horrendously terrific fashion choices are a huge part of what makes Friends so great and worth watching again and again. Heck, it's even worth sitting through, and clapping along with, "I'll Be There for You" every time, with or without music.
Which 'Friends' character would you want to share a closet with?
