With the recent news that Gotham has been renewed by Fox for a second season, our chances of actually seeing The Joker appear on the small screen have substantially improved. After all, the expectation has long been that the show would tease the villain for a series or two before they'd even contemplate introducing him.

Now, a whole lot of those Easter eggs were pretty vague - and with a fair few of them, you had to work pretty hard just to be sure they were actually Joker references at all.

Not so with this latest one, though - for one very particular reason...

We might just have seen - or at least, heard - the arrival of The Joker in the Gotham universe...

The tease in question?

This scene during the recent 'Rogues' Gallery' episode...

(Note: SPOILERS for the episode lie below...)

In which, after Nurse Dorothy Duncan unlocks the cells of Arkham Asylum...

...she's horribly trampled, and then, crucially, is shown lying on the floor - her mouth covered in blood.

Blood that just so happens to strongly resemble the Joker's usual smeared lipstick...

Now, on its own, that'd be a pretty cool tease - but that's only half the story.

In the background, as we see her seemingly lifeless body on the ground, we also hear a maniacal laugh.

A laugh that, in the context of that bloody mouth, and the fact that we're currently in Arkham Asylum, seems to very much suggest one thing, and one thing only...

The Joker is already in Arkham...

And that might just mean we'll get a good look at him in Gotham a whole lot sooner than we ever thought possible...

What do you guys think, though? Will we see The Joker in Gotham any time soon? If so, when? And are there any other Easter eggs hiding in the show that the rest of us have missed?
