Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, is continuing to exercise Snake's classic tactical and elusive methods in terms of announcing its release date for the Xbox One, PC and PS4. Konami has stated that it will be released for 2015, and if it's not, you'll hear me screaming "Snake? What happened? Snaaake?! SNAAAAAAAKE?!" Like a mad man.

But when it comes to Hideo Kojima's extraordinary franchise, there are a great number of expectations that fans of the series bring with them before they boot up their consoles to give it a try. I thought I'd take a look at one moment from each of the Metal Gear games that I've played in order to highlight just how amazing this game will have to be to live up to its past. So, here are some of my favourite moments from the MGS series to date, be sure to add yours in the comments!!

Metal Gear Solid - A Legacy

Metal Gear Solid - PS1 - 1998

There really are too many great moments in this game to even begin to only select one, but I shall do my best. This was a game that really took my expectations of what to expect from the art form and blew them all out of the water. My first adventure with Solid Snake was amazing, and it remains so till this day, and possibly is my favourite MGS title.

But even though the reveal of Liquid being Master was incredible, the torture scene was endlessly intense and even the first moment you get spotted by the guards is amazing, I have to say that the fight with Psychic Mantis was unlike anything I could have imagined.

I can still recall the shock of when the fourth wall was broken and he commanded that you put your controller on the floor and that he was going to make it move. And then moving your controller from one port to the other in order to conceal your thoughts...I mean that's just genius. So this whole fight gets my vote for Metal Gear Solid!

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - PS2 - 2001

Ahh yes, the head wrecker in the series. Man this game was so hard for me to follow when I first played it. But the introduction of Raiden into the world of MGS is a vital and fascinating one, even for just the rip-roaring Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance title we'd get later on! But MGS 2 was great from its opening scene, sure it was disappointing that we weren't always in control of Snake, and Raiden was fairly whiney, but it still had a few gems.

The best moment in the game for me came with a rather emotional scene; the death of Emma. Otacon is a character that Kojima has stated he loves the most after Snake. He's kind, intelligent and extremely loyal and the moment he losses his sister in his arms is truly moving. What an awesome game.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - PS2 - 2004

Of course, this game is renowned as being the real fan favourite in the series. The gameplay mechanics that this introduced were incredible and the level of depth it lent to the backstory of Solid Snake was shocking for us all. It had incredible twists, mind-blowing boss fights and it continues to inspire video game design around the world.

But even with so much going on in this game, my favourite moment was a small one, but one that still resonates with me today. The ladder. The musical theme in this game is exceptional and to see Kojima circumvent our expectations when it came to a boring function in a game (climbing up a ladder) with playing an a-cappella version of it as we climbed...well, there's a reason I love this series so much.

Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns of the Patriots

David Hayter was a marvel in this game (and could David Hayter be a marvel in Metal Gear Solid 5 too?!), his voice as Snake and how it became more and more ill was extraordinarily well done. This game received so many perfect scores from numerous publications and its no wonder why. But a best moment? Hard to pick really.

But I guess I'll go with one that genuinely shocked me; Major Zero. Seeing him in the game was really amazing and totally unexpected. The franchise will hopefully have some great shocking moments for us to sink our teeth into in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

So what are your favourite Metal Gear moments, and are you excited for the announcement of the release date for MGS5 on the Xbox One and PS4?! Let us know in the comments gamers!
