Rejoice Trekkies! A writer has finally been found for Star Trek 3, and not one but TWO!
Deadline are exclusively reporting that long time fan, and current member of cast Simon Pegg will be co-writing the third film in the franchise alongside Doug Jung. The film has been searching for a director since the exit of both J.J. Abrams and Roberto Orci, but has recently found one in Fast & Furious director Justin Lin. So with the addition of a secured writing team it finally seems like the franchise is heading in the right direction.
Undoubtedly this will be met with a positive reaction from fans. Alongside Pegg being a massive fan of the original franchise himself, his writing credits more than back up his talents, co-penning the Wright-directed Cornetto trilogy consisting of Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End, as well as Run Fatboy Run.
Not to be overlooked, Doug Jung also has credits to his name, being the creator of the TNT series Dark Blue, as well as being known for Confidence and So Weird.
Paramount have announced that they are aiming for a premiere on July 8, 2016. A further element of stability to the franchise following the frantic search for a director due to J.J. Abrams commitments to the little known Star Wars franchise.
