It's going to be rough times ahead for the Avengers. Not only will we see the group get torn apart in [Captain America: Civil War](movie:994409), but there's that whole looming thing going on with Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet and whatnot.

While all things Avengers movie related being planned out by Marvel for the next five years or so, one thing is for sure - we won't be seeing the same Avengers lineup in the years to come. In fact, you can put money on [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035) being the last time you'll see Iron Man, Captain America, Hawkeye, Hulk, Thor and Black Widow on the same team.

Take it all in while you still can...

There are a couple intriguing factors that could point directly to what the future lineup of the Avengers will look like - including who could be the new leader in a post-Civil War era.

The comic books are always full of good clues and after the events of the Marvel Civil War all sorts of chaos surrounded the Avengers. You had at least three different groups using some variation of the Avengers name and an ever revolving lineup in each one. But one group - The Mighty Avengers was the official sanctioned and SHEILD-approved Avengers team.

The end of an Avengers era...
The end of an Avengers era...

While the movies haven't had the ability to stick too close to having the exact same Avengers lineups as the comics due to the rights of Marvel characters being spread far and wide among movie studios - there's a strong core to The Mighty Avengers that makes it quite appealing: Iron-Man, Black Widow and Ms. Marvel.

All three are characters that Marvel Studios owns and there is the fact that the Captain Marvel (aka Ms. Marvel, aka Carol Danvers) movie is set to drop immediately following Avengers: Infinity War, Part 1 that makes it even more likely that we'll see Carol Danvers in the new Avenger lineup. And not only that, but she could be the leader of the pack!

How big will the Ms Marvel casting announcement be!

After the events of the Civil War, Tony Stark still wants to honor the Avengers but with SHEILD also requiring his services the leadership duties fall to Captain Marvel. It could be that we see this transition occur over the two Infinity War movies and by the time all is said and done we could have a pretty solid new (Mighty) Avenger lineup.

While the post-Civil War lineup in the comics consisted of Ms. Marvel, Ares, Black Widow, Iron Man, Sentry, Wasp and Wonder Man - my best guess would be something like this: Ms. Marvel, Black Widow, Iron-Man (off & on - probably mostly off), Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Black Panther and Mantis and they'll be based out of Dr. Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum.

What do you think?

Will Ms. Marvel take over the Avengers?
