Last we saw Frank Underwood, he gave his signature tap to the desk - this time it was the desk of the President of the United States. For two seasons he manipulated his way to the top by using anything from lies to murder and never thinking twice about it.
The show is really the crown jewel of Netflix's original programming and with the third season set to debut next month the question is, where can Frank go from here?
Inspired by the book and UK series of the same name - the US House of Cards is getting into some uncharted territory by giving Frank the presidency. With the UK series having the character reach Prime Minister, he still had plenty of blackmailing and scheming to do while being under the thumb of the royal family. Unfortunately for the UK Francis, being King is one job you can't murder your way to the top of.
So who will be Frank Underwood's antagonist in this new season now that he's in one of the ultimate positions of power? Will we be seeing repercussions over his negotiation tactics with China? Will someone have the blackmailing goods on his murderous past? Is it even possible that there's something Frank has missed on his path to the Oval Office?
Could it be that will we finally be seeing cracks in Frank Underwood's armor? Witnessing Frank's downfall would be a tough road to follow. He is one of the greatest "love to hate" characters in recent memory. Sure he's a despicable person, but you can't help but admire the way that he's able to think ten steps ahead of everyone else.
It's this evil nature of his that ends up being his best quality! Usually you won't root for a character with little to no morals, but there's something about seeing a master plan come to fruition that is very rewarding for a viewer - even if the one concocting the plan is pure evil. Could we see someone in Season 3 with enough smarts to escape Frank's web and take him down?
While there is joy to be found in watching Frank manipulate everyone in his path - there could be some pleasure to be found in watching him finally get his just deserts. But they'll have to put someone in his way that can twist these screws and have it be someone we can root for. Otherwise, we'll just be happily waiting for Frank to pull the rug out from under them.
If we're going to see Frank's fall from grace, the most conceivable path would be it coming from his own hand somehow. While I wouldn't mind Frank meeting his match against an opponent who could out-scheme him - chances are that he'll end up being his own worse enemy.
Or, then again, it could be that his greatest adversary is the one under his own roof. We've seen that Claire Underwood is not one to be trifled with in the past. If anyone can teach Frank a lesson it's most likely going to be the new First Lady. Right?
We'll see soon enough when [House of Cards](series:726551) becomes ready for red eye binge watching on February 27th.
