We might all hate him more than cockroaches and 6am right now, but there is no denying that Kai is one of the best Vampire Diaries villains we have been rallying against in a long time.
Kai has really enlivened this season and it looks like big boss Julie Plec might even be thinking of making him into a main character. She explained:
That’s the problem when you have an actor who’s so great and who the audience responds to as a villain. You have to take stock: Is there more that I can do with this character outside of his run as this year’s villain? If so, you have to come up with the right way to do it, and if not, you have to let the heroes get the win over the villain. Every day, we talk about Kai, and we debate it. It’s an ongoing conversation
At the moment, it's impossible for me to image Kai being anything but the biggest big bad [The Vampire Diaries](series:200853) has ever seen, but could he potentially turn over a new leaf and join the main crew?
Even if Kai remains as a villain, he will need to be more of a relatable character (think Katherine) to win audiences over, but is there enough backstory in the world to make us feel sorry for this dude?
I'd love to hear your thoughts on Kai and how you think he could develop as a character!
