I am not going to offer opinion on the Oscar selections, omissions, etc or a detailed review of these films. Just want to keep this abbreviated and see what people are thinking.
I was chatting with a friend the other day and he mentioned to me that he would rather wait for these films to come out on free tv. Most of which should be available on demand very soon or thru other outlets, if not already. However, I am a die hard movie goer and I love to be at the theaters to enjoy the total experience. For example, seeing American Sniper on my smaller tv at home just does not give me that same effect for obvious reasons that we can all agree on. And I don't mean just the big screen action, but it's being with other people and feeling that energy. Watching at home is less than thrilling for me. Too many distractions as well. I don't feel like I am in the perfect setting to truly enjoy a film like that.
Anyway, I have some serious catching up to do! I still have not seen The Imitation Game, Whiplash, Boyhood or The Theory of Everything. In the last week I have had the opportunity to watch American Sniper, Foxcatcher and The Grand Budapest Hotel. Very impressed with all three. I realize that Boyhood seems to be the leading contender to sweep the Oscars, but after seeing American Sniper, I just don't see how any film can beat that one. Hopefully the super popularity surge that film received this past week will help sway the voters.
In any event, enjoy movie goers!
