Have you ever asked yourself, "why do all the Five Wizards in Lord of the Rings get to be dudes?" I hadn't either, but this cosplay by Jessica Nydegger has certainly put female magic-makers on the brain. In these woodsy shots, Nydegger creates a gender-bent Gandalf the Grey, though she certainly makes him a lot less wizened!
Then, onward, men, to the glorious images along with some some of the best Gandalf quotes!
You shall not pass!
She's doing her best to block that passageway from any pesky Balrogs. What I really need is a gender-bent Frodo (Froda?) to complete this ensemble. Hell, while we're at it, why don't we just get the whole Fellowship to follow suit. Are you hearing me, cosplayers?
I find it is the small, everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay
Female Gandalf enjoys a bright red lip and laughs at your inability to wear a skirt in the cold. She also pioneered the magical ability to make painted skin in different designs, a feature that makes the rest of the Istari seethe with jealousy.
All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us
The only thing that could possible make this better is Gandalf's quintessential pipe. How would you feel about seeing her with some of that dank pipe-weed?
Of course you would, Pippin. So typical.
What do you think of this cosplay, Sam?
Okay, well that's just certainly not applicable here. I'm gonna go ahead and ignore you and turn the attention to our more discerning readers. So, what do you guys think of Nydegger's cosplay?
