Lauren Cohan, who is currently starring as Maggie Greene on "The Walking Dead", has signed on to star in the upcoming horror film "The Boy", from Lakeshore Entertainment and Vertigo Entertainment. The film tells the story of a couple who hires a nanny (Cohan) to look after a lifelike doll they use as a way to cope with the death of their son. Things are not that simple though, and the nanny begins to suspect the doll is actually alive.
The script was written by Stacey Menear and will be directed by William Brent Bell (The Devil Inside, Stay Alive).
Cohan has previously guest starred on TV shows "Supernatural", "The Vampire Diaries", "Archer" and "Chuck", and has had some small roles in films but this will be her first starring role.
Don't take this as a sign that the character of Maggie is doomed; the film is slated to start filming in March in British Columbia, Canada and "The Walking Dead" is tentatively scheduled to start filming season 6 in May.
