Since my addiction of watching too many movies started I have seen a lot of Helena Bonham Carter. She is an amazing actress with an unique voice. And I think it's about time to get some of her most beautiful and brilliantly played roles together. So here's a list of roles that made me remember Helena Bonham Carter.

Big Fish - Jennifer (Jenny) Hill & the witch

The movie itself is already a masterpiece, if I may say so. Helena only made it better by playing Jenny and the witch. The first time I watched it I had kind of a hard time finding out what was real and what not, but it was beautiful nevertheless. The witch was really funny. It was a little part, but it had a big meaning in the movie. And Jenny, oh well. She's just so sweet.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Mrs. Bucket

Can you imagine Helena Bonham Carter being nice after seeing the Harry Potter movies she's in? I couldn't! But here's proof that once again (just as in Big Fish) she can play both small and nice & big and bad guy (or in this case bad girl) parts. In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Helena plays the mother of Charlie who finds the last golden ticket and gets the change to see the inside of the chocolate factory of Willy Wonka (Johnny Depp).

Corpse Bride - Emily

Did you recognize her voice in this stop-motion movie by Tim Burton? I did and I loved the movie instantly. Emily is the Corpse Bride from the titel and the movie posters. She is sweet, fragile, but can also become very angry, jealous and is (ofcourse) dead. She shows Victor (voiced by Johnny Depp) the colorful world of the dead, which is funny because the world of the living is painted very black and white in this movie. If you haven't seen this one yet you should. And to peak your interest even more: she also sings in this one! What a beautiful voice she has..

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Mrs. Lovett

My guess is that after she did Corpse Bride and sang a song from the movies soundtrack she got this part in no time. Why? Because 1. in Sweeney Todd there are a lot of musical numbers and 2. Helena can really sing! Mrs. Lovett seems to be the brains behind Sweeney Todd's master plan to kill Judge Turpin (Alan Rickman aka Severus Snape) and free his daughter Johanna from the judge. Sweeney Todd gets help from Anthony, who is in love with Johanna, but is opposed by Beadle Bamford (Timothy Spall aka Peter Pettigrew), judge Turpin's little helper. But after all the dead, despair and secrets they still sing their songs.

Alice in Wonderland - the Red Queen

We all know the Disney classic from 1951 (yes it's that old!). But so much has changed with Tim Burton as director. Wonderland is a new world with more magnificent things then ever before. But one thing hasn't changed: the Red Queen. She is still the bad girl of the tale and still screams the same when she doesn't like somebody: "Off with his head!"

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the Half-Blood Prince and the Deathly Hallows - Bellatrix Lestrange-Black

I think that when people see Helena Bonham Carter most of them will know her from the Harry Potter movies. When I watch a different movie with my friends and I see her and I try to tell them who she is I only have to tell them she played Bellatrix Lestrange and they remember. It's just a character you simply do not forget. Especially with her line:

I Killed Sirius Black! I Killed Sirius Black!

The King's Speech - Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon

This film is a historical drama about king (Albert) George VI who stutters. Not a nice quality for a king, so in this movie he tries to get rid of the stuttering. His wife, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, gets him to see Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush), a voice teacher. Helena Bonham Carter's role in this movie is, again, kind of a sweet one. She tries to help her husband get over his stuttering and his fear to speak publicly. She even participates in some of the sessions he has with Lionel. Beautifully played and even a bit funny here and there.

Dark Shadows - Dr. Julia Hoffman

Dark Shadows shows us the story of Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp), a vampire who awakens after having been buried in a coffin for over 12 years. When he's back at his old house he meets a lot of new people, including dr. Julia Hoffman. She is giving David therapy since he's struggling with psychological problems. Fascinated by Barnabas' stories she wants to examine him. After realizing he's telling the truth she diagnoses him as 'sick'. To cure him she's come up with a plan: get the vampire blood out and human blood into his system. Later it turns out she used the vampire blood to become a vampire herself. As you can imagine a really fun character to watch, seeing she also drinks and smokes a lot (meaning Dr. Julia Hoffman, not Helena).

Great Expectations - Miss Havisham

A movie based on a novel by Charles Dickens. That's just bound to be a masterpiece, don't you agree? Well I sure think it is. And with Helena Bonham Carter playing the role of Miss Havisham it's just marvelous. Her facial expressions, the clothing, her voice, everything fits! And even though she does not have the biggest part, she is a very important character who made me interested to keep watching, who made me laugh, get the chills and even shed a tear.

Les Misérables - Madame Thénardier

I think we all know [Les Miserables](movie:204073). If not, I suggest you watch it as soon as you can, because it is an amazing movie! Just be sure you have enough time to watch it (approximately 2,5 hours). Madame and mister Thénardier are innkeepers who aren't the nicest and most reliable people you know. They've taken in Cosette (Amanda Seyfried) , the daughter of Fantine (Anna Hathaway), who is dead. The Thénardier's have another daughter, Eponine (...), who they spoil. Cosette is represented as some kind of slave of the Thénardiers. You could describe Helena's role of Madame Thénardier with a mixture between Bellatrix Lestrange (her looks and 'evil' role) and Mrs. Bucket (being a mother and caring for at least Eponine).

[The Lone Ranger](movie:24568) - Red Harrington

Red Harrington? That sounds as a cool name. Well, cool it is, but wait until you hear what she does for a job: she's a brothel madam. Another awesome character added to the long list of Helena Bonham Carter. She is a dressed in red (get the joke?) ivory legged brothel madam who isn't afraid of a fight. Oh, and she isn't the bad one in this movie. She helps Reid (Armie Hammer) and Tonto (Johnny Depp) and is funny in the progress. The thing that makes her even more epic is the fact that in her tattooed ivory leg there is a gun that shoots out of her heel.

Where can I get one of those?

And that's the end of the most amazing roles Helena Bonham Carter has played up until now. I hope to see a lot more of her in the future. Did you miss any amazing character she played? Please leave a comment below and thank you for reading.
