One of the pivotal scenes in [Man of Steel](movie:15593) was Superman destroying the World Engine - a Kryptonian device brought to Earth by Zod so that he could terraform himself a new Krypton.
As you can see from the clip, the machine did some devastating things before getting KO'd by Kal-El. And it's been confirmed plenty of times by director Zack Snyder that [Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice](movie:711870) will be dealing with the repercussions of the events in Man of Steel. What looks entirely possible is that the repercussions of the World Engine could be what attracts all this other superhero activity beyond our titular twosome of Batman and Superman.
While we know Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and Jason Momoa's [Aquaman](movie:264237) will be appearing - how they get dragged into the story has been a main point of speculation. But with both Wonder Woman and Aquaman being rulers and ambassadors of sorts for their respective hometowns of Themyscira and Atlantis, it is easy to imagine that the damage done by the World Engine is what sends them on their mission to Metropolis.
Of all the potential Justice League members, Wonder Woman and Aquaman are probably the ones who have the biggest stake in protecting their unique parts of the world. Both characters are often called into action when an outside threat presents itself and from what we've seen so far - the World Engine is just the kind of threat that these two would want to make sure is destroyed completely.
Other recent plot leaks for Batman vs Superman lead us to believe that Lex Luthor is cooking up something sinister in his LexCorp labs. There's been a lot of traction to the rumor that Lex has gotten his hands on some Kryptonite as well as Zod's remains in order to cook up a Zombie Zod version of Doomsday.
Did Lex Luthor also make a trip down to the Indian Ocean to fish for some pieces of World Engine? It makes perfect sense that we would see what became of the remains of this gigantic Kryptonian machine and it also seems like the perfect way for Luthor to get some Kryptonite in his pocket.
Will we get a glimpse of the damage that was done to Themyscira and Atlantis in Batman vs Superman? Will [Wonder Woman](movie:45787) be sneaking her way into LexCorp to make sure he isn't building a new version of the World Engine from scraps? If I were a betting man, I'd say the odds are looking pretty good right about now. What do you think?
