Emma Watson is truly the girl on the go. Following her powerful speech last week regarding her UN Women’s initiative, the HeForShe IMPACT 10x10x10, news has recently broke that the young Harry Potter actress is set to play Belle in Disney's live-action version of their 1991 classic Beauty and the Beast!

Here is the official statement from Walt Disney Studios Publicity:

Actress Emma Watson has been cast as Belle in Disney’s upcoming live-action interpretation of Beauty and the Beast. The film is directed by Bill Condon and produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. Production is anticipated to begin later this year.

You may have already heard word that Watson was set to play Belle in the live-action Warner Bros. version of the fairytale. Of course, Hollywood being the industry that it is, things became a little...complicated.

The Warner Bros. production was originally set to have Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, [Pacific Rim](movie:204401)) at the helm, but he dropped out of the director role this past summer after hearing that Disney was going to start making more live-action versions of their animated films. Going head-to-head with Disney is a daunting task for any director, even one as great as del Toro.

It may seem like a massive setback to lose both your director and then your lead actress, but from all accounts Warner Bros. is still going ahead with their version, sans Watson and del Toro.

While it may seem a little odd to jump from one Belle role to another, apparently del Toro gave his blessing before Watson signed off of Warner Bros. and onto Disney. Now, as was mentioned in her Facebook status, Watson will be able to sing along with all of our favorite tunes.

The film will be written by Stephen Chbosky, who directed Watson in [The Perks of Being a Wallflower](movie:45866), based on the previous draft of the screenplay by Evan Spiliotopoulos and directed by Bill Condon (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Dreamgirls).

Still no word on who will take on the role of the Beast, but I am eagerly awaiting any and all news regarding this new movie.

Since Disney has been revamping their classic animated movies into live-action ones as of late ([Maleficent](movie:39352), [Cinderella](movie:373064), [The Jungle Book](movie:1038643)), it makes me wonder, Which movies are they going to make next?

Here's who we think should star alongside Emma Watson in the live-action Beauty and the Beast.

What do you think about Disney's latest casting call?
