We have a whole lot to look forward to when it comes to the MCU. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one going crazy while following that press conference back in October when Kevin Feige announced the Phase 3 lineup. In fact, I may have uncontrollably jumped up and down pumping my fist. Im not sure, I think I blacked out.

Anyway, after I settled down and let the blood flow back to my head, I started thinking about how great all of these movies could be. But then I started to think a bit past that. What happens after this? After all of our favorite heroes go to war with Thanos, what happens next?

It’s a popular opinion that Infinity War is Marvel’s strongest storyline (not my opinion - I’m a Civil War guy). So how do they follow up their best story? I have a few ideas for what movies we might see in Phase 4.

First off, it’s obvious that we are likely to see sequels of solo movies for characters that will have been established already ([Black Panther](movie:9047), Captain Marvel, etc.) So I wont go into detail on all of those movies and instead I will only bother you with two.

Planet Hulk

You know, if the people at Marvel feel like taking another chance on the big green guy. It hasn’t been their biggest draw so far, but really, what have they got to lose? And of course if they choose not to go in this direction, we do still have the Leader laying in wait since the first movie.

Captain America 4

We all know that Steve Rogers is... oh wait... spoiler alert. Ok. We all know that Steve Rogers is going to die. Whether that’s in Civil War or later is yet to be learned, but he’s going to die. I believe in Phase 4 we will see Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier pick up the mantle. I’m not going to speculate too much on plot of this film but it would be pretty cool if he takes on AIM who resurrects Arnim Zola and Bucky comes face to face with the man that made him the assassin that he was.

So let’s move on to some new characters we could see:

Spider-Man

Obviously, we are all looking forward to the day that Marvel gets the rights to Spider-Man back. And maybe there really is a deal in place for the wall crawler to be included in Infinity War. But I don’t think we will see Spidey completely come back to Marvel in time for Phase 4. Still, it’s at the top of everyone’s wish list and worth mentioning. Maybe Marvel can actually do Venom some justice on the big screen.

Fantastic Four

Here’s a situation that has been overlooked. The biggest reason that it’s so hard for Marvel to get the rights back for Spidey and the X-Men is because their movies still sell. Have you read the plot for the new Fantastic Four movie? If that one sells, I will question my faith in mankind. This is a franchise that could be back with Marvel in the near future (just my guess). It would be cool to see a Dr. Doom that is actually from Latveria.

Nova

People have been calling for him and it’s all laid out for him to show up in the MCU. I wouldn’t be surprised if he actually makes an appearance in Phase 3. But it would be great to see him get a solo movie, perhaps with something along the lines of the Annihilation storyline.

Moon Knight

Here’s another one the people want. And again, he could possibly show up in Phase 3. If there is one hero Marvel has that could carry a movie that could potentially be as serious and dark as Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, this is the one. I really hope we see Moon Knight on the big screen eventually.

Namor

This is an interesting one. I don’t think there’s a ton of interest in him as a character and I haven’t heard a bunch of push to get him into the MCU. But I wouldn’t be shocked if DC’s Aquaman becomes popular and Marvel counters with their ruler of Atlantis. I know they have to get the rights back but... would there really be a big fight?

She Hulk

You want more female driven movies in the MCU? Here’s one of the best opportunities (after Captain Marvel). I personally wouldn’t be overly thrilled with a solo movie, but you never know, seeing a calm and functional female Hulk could be something new that brings in viewers.

A few more new characters worth mentioning include Wonder Man (who I really want to be played by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson), Punisher (why not give him another shot... pun intended), and the Young Avengers (a child driven superhero movie could be a nice change). There’s also the possibility of a Kree vs. Skrull movie. This could be worked into another title, like Guradians of the Galaxy. But this would really set up some other big stories.

Now, we get to the big guns. Each phase includes at least one big crossover film that brings most, if not all, of the characters in the MCU together. Here are some ideas for a big crossover for Phase 4.

Thunderbolts

This isn’t the biggest blockbuster Marvel could throw out, and would probably be more of a middle of the phase than a grand finale. But that doesn’t mean that this wouldn’t be awesome. And again, why not study the competition. DC has their team of villains coming together on the big screen. If Suicide Squad is successful, why not get in on the action?

West Coast Avengers

There are a lot of theories going around involving the Avengers splitting into two teams. I think it is very possible that we see a second Avengers team in the near future. Who will make up this second team? Who knows, there’s a long list of new characters that could join up with some of the old ones. They could choose to stay true to the comics and have Hawkeye lead the team on the left side of the country. And if that is the case, why not stay even truer and have their first big foe be Graviton. After all, he has been in waiting since the first season of [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.](series:722469)

Anything involving Kang!

Every time I see a list of villains that the fans want to see, Kang is at the top. You won’t see him as the main baddie in a solo film, so maybe a 4th Avengers installment. The time traveler could present interesting opportunities, like resurrecting Steve Rogers. We could even see some previously defeated villains. We could see anyone Marvel wants in this movie.

Secret War

Marvel could decide to go with a more realistic and political themed movie. Secret War could be made as a very dark and gritty film, while still featuring all of our favorite heroes. Plus, who plays a major role in this storyline? Daisy Johnson. I’m sure there is a plan for her to have a bigger role in the MCU after she debuts her power on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She will most likely have some sort of role with the Inhumans, but who’s to say there won’t be more after that?

Secret Wars

Deja vu? I know, it’s confusing right? This is a completely different story from the one listed above. And it is also one of the most interesting. Perhaps we see the Beyonder in Phase 4, as he takes a team of heroes and a team of villains to the Battleworld. Again this is a good way to bring back past heroes and villains. How about a team of Cap, Iron Man, Hulk, Spider-Man, the Defenders, Black Panther and Captain Marvel going up against Red Skull, Dr. Doom, Doctor Octopus, Abomination, Loki, Klaw and Ultron. Sounds like the makings of a great movie to me.

There are a myriad of other stories Marvel could go with as well. How about a film based on the 50 State Initiative, where a super team from each state is facing some kind of nationwide catastrophe? The could lead nicely into a blockbuster Secret Invasion movie, featuring the Skrulls as the major villains. And of course, if they try to go with the Planet Hulk idea, they could also give us a World War Hulk movie following it.

Then again, there is another possibility. What if there is no phase 4? What if Marvel is planning Infinity War as an explosive two-part grand finale? Like I said, the Infinity story is possibly the most popular one Marvel has to offer. Maybe they’re thinking this is how they save the best for last.

Don’t worry, as long as there’s money to be made (and we know there will be) they won’t stop making movies. So let’s keep speculating as to what we might see next.

What do you think we might see after [The Avengers: Infinity War](movie:738027)?
