There are horror fans and then there are fans of the horrific. For most audiences a few scares mixed with a little blood and gore is exactly what they are looking for. For others it is the sinister, the macabre, the soul sucking mind fuck that will leave a person feeling both disgusted yet intrigued for days after viewing.

Most often, when you hear someone refer to extreme horror as a genre they really mean that they have watched something that was, to them, extremely scary or gory. However, extreme horror is actually a sub genre of movies that deal with subject mater that most would find: dark, taboo, twisted, sick, deranged, debauched, profane, and above all else not fit for human consumption.

This is a list of the top 10 most horrid and loveable movies along with their brief storyline from IMDb and their trailer. Movies are ranked in order from the most tame to the most brutal.

Keep in mind that I am not recommending these movies to anyone. In fact, my recommendation is that you should not watch these movies! Some things, once seen, can never be UN-seen!

10. Nymphomaniac Vol. I & II

A self-diagnosed nymphomaniac recounts her erotic experiences to the man who saved her after a beating.

This gem is sure to leave a foul taste in your mouth and cause you to spend some time rethinking the nature of human sexuality.

9. Saló

Four fascist libertines round up nine adolescent boys and girls and subject them to a hundred and twenty days of physical, mental and sexual torture.

This is a movie adaptation of a book written by the Marquis De Sade himself so I would think that no further explanation is needed. The director of this film states that his intent was to create metaphor pertaining to society and fascism. Unfortunately, these metaphors were lost on most viewers who saw nothing more than an exploitation of human depravity.

8. Cannibal Holocaust

A New York University professor returns from a rescue mission to the Amazon rainforest with the footage shot by a lost team of documentarians who were making a film about the area's local cannibal tribes.

One of the first true "found footage" movies. Sure its gruesome and has some brutal scenes. Not to mention it pissed off animal rights activists with its animal cruelty scenes, all of which were real.

7. Men Behind The Sun

Japanese troops round up Chinese and Russian prisoners of war and take them to a place called Squadron 731, where they are grotesquely tortured and experimented on to test new biological weapons.

Here's a film for those who like experiments, especially human experiments accompanied by torture and overall cruelty.

6. The August Underground Trilogy

Two friends bring along a newcomer to go on a killing spree.

Out of all movies from the August Underground trilogy "Mordum" Is the best by far. Not much of a story line just a few psychopaths being explicitly psychotic all in good fun.

5. Lucifer Valentine's Vomit Gore Trilogy

The gruesome tapestry of psychological manifestations of a nineteen year old bulimic runaway stripper-turned prostitute as she descends into a hellish pit of satanic nightmares and hallucinations.

This trilogy does not have much of a plot to follow or a storyline for that matter. The movies contain little dialogue and mostly features disturbing images accompanied by unnerving guitar riffs and other nerve grinding sound effects. These movies deserve their place on the list due to their disgusting nature but lets call them what they really are, "puke porn."

4. Martyrs

A young woman's quest for revenge against the people who kidnapped and tormented her as a child leads her and a friend, who is also a victim of child abuse, on a terrifying journey into a living hell of depravity.

This is a sweet little story of revenge that turns into something much more, in the grand scheme of things. That is, if there is a grand scheme of things. This film has a very good storyline and takes a very nihilistic approach.

3. In A Glass Cage

A former Nazi doctor-turned-pedophile, paralyzed from the neck down after a suicide attempt, is forced to accept a boy as his nurse under threat of blackmail: the boy secretly witnessed the doctor's torture and murder of another boy, and possesses the man's diary, which details his wartime experiments and his subsequent descent into pedophilia and murder. Before long, the boy displays his ambition to follow in the older man's footsteps.

Looking for a film that will leave you with an "Ick factor?" Look no further. This movie is demented and deals with some pretty sick subject matter.

2. A Serbian Film

An aging porn star agrees to participate in an "art film" in order to make a clean break from the business, only to discover that he has been drafted into making a pedophilia and necrophilia themed snuff film.

Here is another film that will stick with you much longer than you would like. Its brutal and has been described by one critic as "a soul raping film." It pushes the envelope so far that its been banned in several places. The creator of this film seems to be pretty good at coming up with sub genres for pornography, enough said.

1. The Angels' Melancholia -or- Melancholie der Engel

Two friends meet again to share their last days in an old house where everything happened a long time ago. They gather a group of people, which results in a disastrous turn of events, during which reveals the deepest human depths.

This film lands on the number one spot for most disturbing movie not meant for human consumption. Not just for its subject matter, but for its brutal scenes of insane, debauched, horrendous, disgusting, and often meaningless acts of cruelty. And to serve as icing on the cake, this film also upset animal rights activists due to the fact that animals were harmed in the making of this movie.
