As a huge fan of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, I was sitting and pondering the collective deaths within the franchise. You know, like you do - a cool glass of sweet tea and some time to kick back and reflect on gore and masks made of human skin...

Then I realized something: there are 59 deaths over the course of 7 Texas Chainsaw movies... and only 10 of them are chainsaw kills. Pretty funny, right?

Let's break it down by movie.

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974)

Chainsaw kills: 1 (Franklin)

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE PART 2 (1986)

Chainsaw kills: 1 (Buzz)

LEATHERFACE: THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 3 (1990)

Chainsaw kills: 1 (Sara) - although, she also gets strangled, so this one is debatable...

TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE NEXT GENERATION (1994)

Chainsaw kills: 0 (Seriously, there are none)

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (2003)

Chainsaw kills: 2 (Pepper & Morgan)

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING (2006)

Chainsaw kills: 4 (Holden, Eric, Dean & Chrissie - Although Eric does get skinned alive, so the chainsaw doesn't conclusively kill him)

TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D (2013)

Chainsaw kills: 1 (Kenny)

Yup, turns out, Leatherface is pretty inventive (although he's not the only killer on the scene)! The kills come via knife, hook, shears, hatchet, pitchfork, grenade and airplane propeller... but not so many by chainsaw.

The Texas Chainsaw Math Massacre is conclusive: 10 chainsaw deaths over 7 movies, giving an average of 1.4 per movie - contrast this with 14 gun deaths, averaging 2 per movie.

They should have called it Texas Gun Massacre.
