Hollywood seems to be loving the remake / reboot at the moment, especially when it comes to horror. Coming up we have a Pumpkinhead remake as well as remakes of The Crow, Gremlins and IT... I'm up for remakes if they're handled well, especially if the franchises in question have awesome characters - and killings - that are worth revisiting.

Check out 5 1990s horror movies that are totally crying out for the remake treatment!

1. Jacob's Ladder

Year of release: 1990

It's remake-worthy because... its influence has been felt by many other horror creations, notably the video game series Silent Hill. Besides, it's just trippy as hell and deserves another outing.

Has it spawned before? No, but this might actually come to fruition - an homage to the original Jacob's Ladder is in development from Midnight Meat Train's Jeff Buhler and Jake Wade Wall (the man who wrote the 2006 remake script for When a Stranger Calls).

2. Candyman

Year of release: 1992

It's remake-worthy because... it's a genuinely terrifying story. Clive Barker's short story 'The Forbidden' grew into possibly the most frightening horror of the 1990s, and it's time for the Candyman to come calling again.

Has it spawned before? Two sequels: Candyman 2: Farewell to the Flesh and Candyman 3: Day of the Dead.

3. Needful things

Year of release: 1993

It's remake-worthy because... you can never have enough Stephen King and, much as I love the original movies of Needful Things and Tommyknockers, it'd be rad to see them remade with modern effects - and extra scariness!

Has it spawned before? No, but obviously, the Stephen King adaptation boat never dies - a remake of the IT movie is already in the works!

4. Castle Freak

Year of release: 1995

It's remake-worthy because... there are some truly monstrous moments, and this movie was never particularly famous during its initial release.

Has it spawned before? No, but the popularity of 5-sequel Wrong Turn shows that we cannot get enough of deranged mutants...

5. Wishmaster

Year of release: 1997

It's remake-worthy because... it's basically the best comedy horror of all time! The delightfully '80s effects belie a relatively late 1997 release, and the Leprechaun-esque jokes make this movie ripe for rewatching.

Has it spawned before? Yes, 3 sequels: Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies, Wishmaster 3: Beyond the Gates of Hell and Wishmaster 4: The Prophecy Fulfilled.
