For reasons we still can't quite figure out, Will Smith chose not to return for the upcoming Independence Day sequel. Since then, we've all been scratching our heads and debating who should take the starring role.
Now, according to the latest reports, we finally have an answer.
Apparently, sources close to the production team on the movie told TheWrap that the Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth will be offered the lead role.
When questioned about the younger Hemsworth's appearance in the alien invasion sequel, a representative for 20th Century Fox said, "no comment."
The movie, entitled "ID Forever" and directed by Roland Emmerich, follows on from the 1996 original and will feature half of the old cast and five newbies.
It's incredibly unlikely Will Smith will have a change of heart and return to feature as Captain Steven Hiller, but of those making a return we find Jeff Goldblum as David Levinson and Bill Pullman as Thomas J. Whitmore (The President of the United States).
