Let's cool it down with the Grey Hulk hysteria, shall we? Sure, there might be some Hulk toy variants out there. But it just doesn't add up to me. At least not the Grey Hulk vs. Hulk Buster business. Ok, it could be entirely possible that we see a Grey Hulk in [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035), but here's a simple reason why it's most likely not the guy who's rampaging through the streets and going at it with Tony Stark and the Hulk Buster suit.
Grey Hulk vs. Savage Hulk
The Grey Hulk exists for a very simple reason - he's the version of Hulk that isn't a rampaging monster. Grey Hulk is the smart(er) version of Hulk and it makes no sense that they would bring this version of him out in Avengers 2 to go crazy. Savage Hulk (aka Green Hulk), on the other hand, is the exact kind of crazy to go tearing through a city willy-nilly and is considered the opposite of Grey Hulk. (Let's not speak of Red Hulk.)
I do like the rumor about Scarlet Witch controlling Hulk in these scenes against Hulk Busting Iron-Man - hence the red eye. It is starting to sound like most of the Avengers will be getting their brains violated by Scarlet Witch and being treated to some not so great images. I've speculated that this is why we'll see Thor head off to Asgard in Avengers 2 to try and stop the Ragnarok.
Will We See a True Grey Hulk In Avengers 2?
Does the vision Hulk, or Bruce Banner is treated to by the Scarlet Witch involve an appearance by the Grey Hulk? That seems more likely than Grey Hulk going on a smash-friendly rampage. Do we see Dr. Bruce Banner performing tests on himself and trying to tame the Hulk and go about creating a Grey Hulk that can speak complete sentences? Again, seems more likely than a crazy Grey Hulk.
Hulk/Banner is perhaps the character I'm most interested in seeing during Avengers 2. He's one of the few that doesn't have his own movie planned sometime in the next five years and in my opinion he's one of the best and most complex Marvel creations. Sure, he's basically a version on the classic Jekyll and Hyde story but classics are classics for a reason. On top of that there aren't many characters that are as inherently prone to good drama and good SMASH! as Hulk is.
It'll be great if the seeds of Grey Hulk are planted in Avengers 2, but I'm really hoping they don't completely change the nature of this other Hulk personality by making him just another version of Savage Hulk. Yes, Grey Hulk did turn out to have a rather ridiculous stint as a Vegas enforcer but Grey Hulk was foremost an intelligent Hulk who served as another facet of Dr. Banner's personality one that had the potential to combine smarts with muscle - the kind of Hulk who could be a leader in his own right.
Most of all, I'm just hoping they don't waste this important part of the Hulk mythos as just another version of Savage Hulk. What do you think?
