Hot on the heels of an interesting cast introduction, the internet was given a full release date, and some info on the new Ghostbusters film helmed by Katie Dippold and Paul Feig.
The release date pits the Ghostbusters against another classic childhood team: The Power Rangers. That's right: your childhood is getting a double-whammy on the weekend of the 22nd.
The folks over at HitFix followed this up with a little more info on the movie from sources close to the film:
Kristen Wiig is playing Erin Garber, a published author on the subject of the paranormal. Erin now works for Columbia University.
Leslie Jones is playing Abby Bergman, who co-authored the book with Garber. Since publication, the two former colleagues had a falling out and went their separate ways. Abby more actively chases ghost a la Ghost Hunters. This tension between academic investigation (Wiig's character) and mainstream media investigation (Jones' character) is central to the story.
Kate McKinnon is playing Abby Berman's new partner, Jillian.
Melissa McCarthy is playing Patty, an NYC subway worker who stumbles across the main, supernatural threat in the film.
But wait, there's more! HitFix also has reason to believe that Bill Murray (who originally refused to do Ghostbusters 3, or a reboot) and [Game of Thrones](movie:817617)' Peter Dinklage, are both being sought out for parts in the project. Here's the snippet:
Sony wants Bill Murray to play Martin Heiss, "a man who is a professional supernatural debunker who is out to prove that the Ghostbusters are frauds."
Dinklage is being sought out for the role of a villain: "a creepy mechanical genius."
Interesting! Stick around and we'll keep you updated as the film develops.
