Well after hearing that Disney is planning on Rebooting Indiana Jones people started prognosticating that Chris Pratt would be their top choice to play the iconic adventuring archaeologist. This news neither excites or enrages me. I like Chris Pratt he was great as Star Lord but he's going to be in Jurassic World and I just hope they don't over saturate us with him as the go to reboot guy. besides I think Harrison Ford deserves a chance to redeem the franchise after that Crystal Skull movie. Although it's not hard for me to imagine Pratt as Indy I am only used to two other actors in the legendary role. That would be Harrison Ford and the late great River Phoenix who portrayed the young Indiana Jones in the movies. It's a shame he isn't alive today to take the reboot role. After all it was River Phoenix that showed us how Indy got his trademark Fedora.

That hat stayed with Indy everywhere and barely ever came off his head. Even when he was chased, dragged, crashing, and beaten. How did they do that?

Why the Fedora?

Not only was it good for disguising the stuntmen but in between the 1920's and the 1950's the Fedora was the most popular hat on the market. Popularized by Gangsters and Gumshoes in the movies and serials of the day.

Humphrey Bogart wore his Fedora while treasure hunting too!

Not only Bogart but the comic book and radio heroes like Dick Tracy, The Shadow, The Spirit, and the Green Hornet wore one!

Yes you could hear those Fedoras on the radio! Pulp Heroes by Seele-02 From left to right, the Spirit, the Rocketeer, the Spider -- Master of Men! -- , the Phantom detective, the Green Hornet, the Shadow, Dick Tracy, Nero Wolfe, Hercule Poirot, Doc Savage, Indiana Jones, and the Phantom.

Deborah Nadoolman Landis The costume designer on Raiders claimed the inspiration for Indiana's costume was Charlton Heston's Harry Steele

"We did watch this film together as a crew several times, and I always thought it strange that the filmmakers did not credit it later as the inspiration for the series, the film is almost a shot for shot Raiders of the Lost Ark."

So you can remake, recast, reboot, re-imagine or re-loot Indiana Jones, but even though his legendary hat has some minor differences from movie to movie, (The original hat block is a real lost artifact! see the video below ) He won't be Indiana Jones without the Fedora!
