If you're a fan of the show Community then you may know of its odd track record though many do not. Either way here it is(You can skip this if you're already a community expert). So Community is a show about a bunch of lovable goofballs who get together and create a "study" group in a community college. The show was created in 2009 and is still going strong today. Kinda. Well the show didn't really ever "go strong". The show was cancelled by NBC during it's third season resulting in a large outburst from the fans of the show. The campaign to get it back on air started with tags on social media, to a flash mob outside NBC called "Occupy NBC"(This was around the Occupy Wallstreet protest), and a college humor skit with the cast of Community called "Save Greendale("The name of the community College). All of this actually lead to the revival of the show. But then here comes the season we wish we all could forget, when season 4 rolled over. The shows creator Dan Harmon quit the show and then once again it was presumed dead. Until David Guarascio and Moses Port took over to bring in a fourth season. Which was quite disappointing. And once again, we thought the show was dead. Then in came Dan Harmon, returning to revive the show, and he did.
Until it was cancelled. Again. Even the show, which is known for its fourth wall breaks, mocked the cancelling of the show even before NBC did so. And so we thought the show was gone. It was June 30th the last day before the casts contracts were due to expire and in came... Yahoo? Yes of all things Yahoo! Screen came and brought the show back, letting it nearly live up to the famous tag it had gotten #sixseasonsandamovie. It's sixth season is being finalized and will be streamed on Yahoo! Screen on March 17th. So why did I bring a tv show onto a site called Moviepilot?
As I said earlier, the #sixseasonsandamovie tag had gotten quite a bit of attention for the show. And since they've made six seasons...is a movie in the near future? In June of 2014 on an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Zack Van Amburg of Sony Pictures Television confirmed that a Community film was in the early stages of development. Specifically he said "There's no way we're not making the movie now! I think once we make the movie, let's look up and decide how much more Community the world wants. [ . . . ] I'd be lying if I told you that we have not had some very early and preliminary conversations that are very exciting about what a potential movie could be and who might direct it." AND at Comunicon(If you hadn't guess it, it's a Community Convention) the series creator Dan Harmon said "My fantasy is that [ . . . ] in this new medium [season six could be] the first chapter in what is the larger story. I think there's gonna be seventh... eighth... ninth... tenth... eleventh... seasons. [ . . . ] We will have six seasons, and we will have a movie, that does not deny us the right from having nine seasons, and a Bethesda video game." Now obviously he was joking around but I personally think a Bethesda Community game would awesome! The shows been through some tough patches, including low ratings, on-set drama, departing cast members, and the firing of its creator and show runner, Dan Harmon. I mean if any show can do this, it's definitely Community!
