Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has bought North American rights and select international territories to November Criminals, the Sacha Gervasi-directed drama that will star Chloe Grace Moretz and Ansel Elgort.
Chloë Moretz & Ansel Elgort previously starred together in the 2013 remake of the cult-horror classic Carrie.
Beth O’Neil (“Jack Goes Boating”) and Erika Olde of Black Bicycle Entertainment will produce alongside Lotus. Black Bicycle Entertainment is also co-financing the film with Lotus, which is handling remaining international sales.
Steven Knight adapted the script from Sam Munson’s 2011 novel about high school senior Addison Schacht (Elgort) has a lot of preoccupations, like selling drugs to his classmates, getting into college, and his complicated relationship with his best friend (NOT his girlfriend) Digger (Moretz). And he's just added another to the list: the murder of his classmate Kevin Broadus, and his own obsessive plan to investigate the death. When presented with an essay question on his application to the University of Chicago -- What are your best and worst qualities? -- Addison finds himself provoked into giving his final, unapologetic say about all of the above and more, and the thrilling result is an unforgettable trip through the Washington, D.C. teenage underworld.
The film will also star Catherine Keener, with production scheduled to begin March 16.
