The cast of Paul Feig's new Ghostbusters movie was announced a few days ago. The cast includes Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. So we know who will be in it, but we still haven't learned much about what the characters will be like. Until now, that is. The site HitFlix has done some digging into the script, and uncovered a glimpse at what and who we will see in the new film.
Erin Gabler is an academic on the tenure track at Columbia. Her former colleague and co-author is…
Abby Bergman, who’s more on the pop parapsychology side of things, and pursues ghosts for a living.
Jillian is Abby’s ghost hunting partner.
Patty is an MTA employee who comes across the main ghost.
We currently don't know who will be playing which role, but HitFlix guesses Wiig will play Erin, Jones will play Abby, McKinnon will play Jillian, and McCarthy will play Patty. It is important to note that these are all new characters, and not gender-flipped versions of the characters from the 1984 version.
So, we now know who our protagonists will be. But what about the villains? Don't worry, we've got that covered too. Peter Dinklage is apparently wanted for the role of the primary antagonist, who is only described as a "creepy mechanical genius." However, the biggest news about this reboot so far is that Paul Feig and his team want Bill Murray for a non-Peter Venkman role.
Murray is apparently wanted for the role of Martin Heiss, a professional debunker of the supernatural who goes after the Ghostbusters after seeing their videos online. Basically, he's the Walter Peck of the new movie.
Now, I haven't been very enthusiastic about this reboot, but adding Bill Murray to the cast could do a lot to the film. Not to mention, it would be huge if Feig could manage to pull Murray back to the franchise. He's been hesitant to revisit Ghostbusters when a third installment was in the works. However, he's recently expressed his enthusiasm for the reboot, specifically the all-female cast. Anything is possible.
