James Franco has assembled the all-star cast of Selena Gomez, Vincent D'Onofrio, Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, Bryan Cranston and Danny McBride to star in the adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel. There is no detail on what characters they will play.
The novel centers on a man (Franco) trying to organize a strike between fruit pickers in Southern California. Matt Rager, who worked on the screenplay for As I Lay Dying with James Franco, is writing the screenplay adaptation. Principal photography is slated to begin in March, although it isn't known if other roles needed to be cast. James Franco has a history with John Steinbeck, recently making his Broadway debut with a revival of his Of Mice and Men.
AMBI Group — the movie development, finance, production and distribution group owned and run by Andrea Iervolino and Lady Monika Bacardi — is financing the film and producing with Rabbit Bandini Productions and That's Hollywood Pictures.
James Franco will reunite with Selena Gomez on this project, after the indie hit Spring Breakers.
Production is set to begin in March.
