It's a big day for Batman fans worldwide as news of an Arkham Knight Novel written by Marv Wolfman will be released this summer in line with the Video game Batman: Arkham Knight!

The novel Batman: Arkham Knight has been in development for some time now, secretly worked on behind closed doors by the well renowned comic writer Marv Wolfman. Wolfman is no stranger to this genre of writing and is probably best known for his lengthy runs on Marvel Comics' The Tomb of Dracula, for which he and artist Gene Colan created the vampire-slayer Blade, and DC Comics' The New Teen Titans and the event limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths with George Pérez.

Wolfman came out with this news on his Facebook page, stating that secrecy has been paramount - keeping this title hidden from even his dog!

Well, I can finally tell folk what I’ve been working on these past months in total secrecy, even from my dog. I wrote the official novelization for ARKHAM KNIGHT, based on the upcoming video game, and had a ball doing it. The story is highly emotional and I’m exceedingly happy with the results. Both game and book come out in July. I’ll post the cover here once it’s official. Anyway, whew, it feels great finally being able to talk about it. My dog is happy, too. I no longer have to keep throwing her out of my office while I’m working.

What we know of Batman: Arkham Knight

As a new day begins, Bruce Wayne finds himself in devastating pain, recovering from his injuries and questioning whether his role as Batman is still necessary for the city’s survival. But as the sun rises in Gotham City, dangerous new threats emerge from the shadows… and the Arkham Knight is just beginning.

Based on the DC Comics superhero Batman, Batman: Arkham Knight is the successor to Warner Bros.' 2013 video game Batman: Arkham Origins, and the fourth main game in the Batman: Arkham series.

One year after the death of the Joker during the events of Arkham City. Batman is struggling to come to terms with the absence of his nemesis and the uncomfortable feeling that the pair shared a bond deeper than either could admit.

Without the Joker's chaotic presence, Gotham's citizens have never felt safer, and crime in the city has dramatically declined. However, this gives Batman's enemies, including Penguin, Two-Face, and Harley Quinn, a chance to unite with the singular goal of killing Batman.

Who is the Arkham Knight?

There is also set to an in-continuity prequel comic, set prior to the events of the brand-new video game Batman: Arkham Knight which will be a must-read!

What is so fantastic about the introduction of the prequel comic and the novelization of the Batman: Arkham Knight to the DC universe is that the Arkham games' titular villain, the Arkham Knight, isn't based on any character that has appeared in Batman fiction previously. This means the prequel comic will help introduce him and give us all a more in depth, and probably fearsome, account of the villain.

The first comic book will be written by Peter J. Tomasi with art by Viktor Bogdanovic and Art Thibert. The cover artist for the series will be Dan Panosian. The first issue, on sale March 11, will include two variant covers, one by Gary Frank and the other will feature art from the game.
