Who is the Joker?

What's his back story?

These two questions have come across many minds of Joker fans over the years. However, here's what we do know (bear with me):

  • The Joker was created in 1940 and was inspired by the actor Conrad Veidt

Bob Kane, Bill Finger, and Jerry Robinson were the three men responsible for the creation of Joker. In the beginning, however, when Jerry Robinson brought the Joker character to Bill Finger, it was a no go. But later, Finger changed his mind. Aren't you glad?

  • Before the "Joker" title, he was the Red Hood

The name Red Hood is all that is known about Joker's previous name/life when he was a little known criminal. And then of course there was the "accidental push" (*side eye*) from Batman and the Joker was born.

  • Depending on what version of the Joker, you watch, he's a serial killer or a "raving psychotic madman".

  • The Joker seems to enjoy/dread Batman's company by causing enough havoc to get Batsy's attention.

Chance after chance, Joker could have wiped out Batman, but does that mean the Joker actually needs the Bats to function? Check out the article Batman vs Superman: Does Batman need the Joker?
