Welcome back to CROSSOVER WARS! Where we (my nerdy friends and I) pit two characters of similar abilities, from different fictions, against each other to see who the fans on MOVIEPILOT rally behind. In ROUND 3 we've chosen two of the biggest, baddest dragons in pop culture, Alduin (The Elder Scrolls V. Skyrim), and Smaug (The Hobbit). So, without further adieu...
TO THE DEATH! This showdown takes place assuming that both contenders are willing and able to take their opponent's life.
BATTERY FULL! Both fighters are at the peak of their physical abilities, and are allowed to use any and all items they have ever possessed in their respective lore.
1V1! At no point in time can a contestant call on their allied forces for help. (Lets get serious, neither of these hard-asses need backup anyways)
Alduin The World Eater
- Flight (Duh?)
- Fo Krah Din! (Fire Breath)
- Lis Slen Nus! (Frost Breath)
- Fus Ro Dah! (Unrelenting Force)
- Strun Bah Qo! (Storm Call)
Wild Card! As the son of Akatosh, Alduin is technically a demigod, making it nearly impossible to kill him. The only way to truly kill The World Eater is to destroy, or absorb his soul. Not even the Dragonborn was able to do this, can Smaug succeed where the Dragonborn failed?
Smaug The Terrible; Chiefest and Greatest of Calamities
- Flight (DUH??!!)
- Fire Breath
- Nearly Impenetrable Armor (See Wild Card)
- Heightened Senses (See Wild Card)
Wild Card! Smaug is eventually defeated by a black arrow fired by Bard the Bowman. The black arrows were forged by the dwarves, they were few, and they were said to be the only weapon capable of killing Smaug. As you can see in the size charts, Smaug is quite a bit larger than Alduin giving him a distinct advantage. Also, in a situation described in The Hobbit, Bilbo uses the one ring to pass into the world of the dead (turn invisible), despite the fact that Bilbo had literally left the plane of existence, Smaug could still sense him. If any one being is capable of fixing the Dragonborn's mistake, it truly is Smaug.
