Britney Spears' ex-boyfriend, John Sundahl, has been shot down and killed by the Taliban in Afghanistan.
The 44-year-old was working as a private transporter contractor flying officials across the region when his helicopter was shot down.
Sundahl met Britney Spears at an alcoholics anonymous meeting after her highly publicised breakdown in 2007 and he is credited with helping her to give up alcohol after they started dating.
When asked about the 33-year-old singers thoughts on Sundahl's death, asource close to Britney said:
She is devastated. Britney thought he was a lovely man
John's distraught brother Karl also spoke out to The Mirror about the shocking death of his sibling. He told the press that:
It’s heartbreaking – John went there to try to repair the country.He was trying to help people. He would often say that the country was in chaos. My family are heartbroken. My parents are elderly so this is very tough for them, and all of us.
We know that Britney is upset too. John was still good friends with Britney, he talked to her regularly. They dated for a while but always kept in touch afterwards
John's funeral was conducted at a temple in Chinatown, Los Angeles in accordance to his Buddhist faith.
Britney Spears herself is yet to issue a statement about Sundahl's death.
