If there were any doubts that Matthew Ziff was an actor with a sharp career trajectory upward, they have been officially laid to rest.

Ziff won the "Rising Star" award at the 2015 "Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Honors in Atlantic City, New Jersey on January 24.

Ziff, who is a Second-Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do - and has also trained in Hapkido, wrestling and sword-fighting, reportedly won the award based on his contributions to martial arts in general and his work in the historic, anticipated 2015 film "The Martial Arts Kid", which had three exclusive screenings at the event.

The award is considered very prestigious in the martial arts community specifically and in Hollywood in general, since the event has become known as "The Academy Awards of Martial Arts".

With so many young martial artists in the "The Martial Arts Kid" alone - not to mention in the rest of the world - Ziff says he was taken aback by the honor.

"Yes!! It was totally a surprise", says Ziff, "I didn’t even know I was up for an award!! It’s really an honor to receive it and to be placed among some of the most incredible people in the world."

Ziff says receiving the "Rising Star" award at the most revered martial arts event in the world - as well as another award - gave him a dose of adrenalin at the culmination of what he describes as a fun - but crazy-busy - weekend.

"It felt good", Ziff exclaimed. "It had been a long day and I was fading fast, but then I heard the announcement and woke right up! I had to ask my friends who I was sitting with to confirm I heard it right!"

Ziff's portrayal of the film's bully, Bo Whitlaw is amazing. He truly transformed himself and gave a performance that allowed him to hold his own with not only the film's titular "Kid", Jansen Panettiere, but the co-headliners of the film, martial arts/action-movie legends Cynthia Rothrock and Don "The Dragon" Wilson.

For accuracy's sake, here are the inscriptions on the awards Ziff received at "The Academy Awards of Martial Arts":

The first was :
“ACTION MARTIAL ARTS MAGAZINE HALL OF HONORS 2015
Outstanding Achievements in The Martial Arts:

And the second was:

Ziff has many other projects coming up, including the upcoming "Kickboxer: Vengeance", in which he is part of a cast that includes Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dave Bautista and Gina Carano.

"The Martial Arts Kid" is scheduled to hit theaters in late 2015.
