When The Little Mermaid burst onto screens in 1989, it marked the beginning of a steady upward climb for Disney as it, after a series of flops, entered its Renaissance period. We followed the journey of redhead Ariel as she pined to be with her true love Prince Eric, separated by sea, species and parent!

Over 25 years later the movie has had two sequels; The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea (2000) and The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning (2008) and its popularity shows no signs of slowing down!

Take a trip under the sea and look at these moments when Tumblr users showed their appreciation for The Little Mermaid!

1. When they realize Ariel and her sisters represented the Seven Seas

Ok, so I know some of you might be able to note that not all of what this Tumblr user has written about the seas themselves was entirely correct, but the core observation, that Ariel and her sisters represent the Seven Seas, is totally on point! Very clever Disney!

2. When they called out Ariel's fashion sense

Um, good question! Admittedly Adella's yellowy/green tail and bra combo doesn't match entirely either, but Ariel really sticks out like a sore thumb! I guess this is just Disney being clever again and making efforts to show the Ariel is very unique among her family, with both her hair and clothing colors, and also her lifestyle choices.

3. When they perfectly translated Ariel's expression

In The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea Ariel and Eric have been blessed with a daughter Melody, though she struggles to fit in when she's older. Trying to reassure her that she's not a total disaster Ariel drops this expression which totally says it all!

4. When they realized they might have outgrown the movie

I have to admit that although I really do love The Little Mermaid as an adult I have to agree with this Tumblr user! Ouch that hurts to say! But seriously though, if a 16-year-old girl started going on about how much she loved a dude she'd never talked to you would definitely be trying to shut that down.

5. When they saw to the core of what Ariel was saying

Literally though, Melody.

6. When they laid down this real talk

Firstly, duh! Who doesn't know what a Dinglehopper is? And secondly, I love the subtle Toy Story reference in the 'uncultured swine' slam!
