The first trailer for Ryan Gosling's directorial debut, Lost River, has been released a year after the film was premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 2014.
The heavily stylized and intriguing clip gives us a brief glimpse into the lives of a single mother who is swept into a dark underworld, and her desperate son who discovers an underwater town.
Unfortunately, the film was mocked and panned by critics, with one even saying the film was “unthinkingly offensive.”
The trailer, with it's creeping electro-pop soundtrack, does bare striking resemblances to other acclaimed filmmakers work, notably Nicholas Winding Refn's who directed Gosling in the excellent Drive.

We all know film critics can be rather snobbish and, to be honest, I actually think the trailer looks pretty cool. I'll certainly by giving it a watch.
Lost River is released in select theaters and on Digital HD on April 10th, 2015.
