The Last of Us is rife with moments of sheer beauty, whether that be in its gameplay or during its cinematic sequences. When we look to Naughty Dog for the future of the franchise, we have to wonder how they can improve upon what, to many, was a perfect game.

Now, The Last of Us 2 has no release date of course, as the likely PS4 title won't be fully discussed until Uncharted 4 has its chance in the sunlight. Until then, we're stuck with rumours and a total lack of news about Joel and Ellie's future in the gaming world. But I thought we could take a look at some of the moments that players have particularly been impressed with. So naturally, spoiler alert!

The Last of Us 2 - Can it Beat these TLOU Moments?

Now, these are going to be a culmination of both player favourite moments and also those that I believe were the most affecting. Therefore, be sure to let us know whether you found alternative moments to be more powerful! Also, isn't that such an incredible statement: "Gaming's Citizen Kane Moment"? I love it!

So, to borrow from Julie Andrews, let's start at the very beginning. It is a very good place to start after all. The opening to The Last of Us did an astounding job of setting the tone for the masterpiece that was to follow. I know every moment of its opening having played it several times to show friends how powerful it was. Come on, let's all weep one more time.

In the words of PewDiePie: "What?! I'm getting teary eyed in the fu%&/ยง& intro!!" I genuinely couldn't believe that this game had dragged me so deeply into its world and characters in the space of 15 minutes. I've played games for 60 hours and cared less for characters in them. There are a lot of losses in The Last of Us, and Tess' was devastating for us too.

I must say, I knew that the game was about Joel and Ellie, and I couldn't wait to see how their relationship was going to develop throughout the course of it, especially on Joel's side after the loss of his daughter. But even though I wanted the two of them to go off on their journey alone, Tess was still a great character and the game showed its power in making me care for a someone I knew wasn't going to be around for long and felt was blocking the story's progression.

Aside from the cinematics, I think the best gameplay section of The Last of Us takes place in the snow in the winter section when Joe is healing. The first few moments that we take control of Ellie attempting to hunt down that deer were sublime. The graphics were beautiful, it was challenging to stay quiet and the area we hunted it in was so vast. Then how it tied into meeting those bandits...incredible stuff!

The second best moment for me was when Ellie ran ahead of us inside that abandoned building. Naughty Dog take us from your standard in door setting and then Gustavo Santaollala's beautiful music starts playing. We round a few corners and are confronted with a giraffe. It was moving and beyond poignant.

The Last of Us 2 has a remarkable game to live up to. How can you improve upon this? The game could certainly get fixes in the combat department and some of the AI issues could be fixed here in there, but the overall achievement of the game was sublime. How could they do that a second time around?

There are a lot of speculations and rumours of where the game could take us (Joel might even be the villain) but we'd love to hear what you want from The Last of Us 2 on its release date for the PS4! Sound off in the comments and tell us what you're favourite moment was in the game. And finally let's all enjoy this stunning score one more time.
