It is a hallmark of the universality of the Disney Princess that they can take transformation into almost anything and still be recognizably a Disney creation.
The common ending for the vast majority of Disney Princesses is marriage to their Prince.
Amrit Grewal, a Vancouver based wedding photographer, has taken that happy ending and given it an Indian twist. He has transformed 9 Disney Princesses into awesomely lovely Indian Brides.
The style and variety of Indian bridal finery puts the traditional European/American white wedding dress to shame. Not only are these Princesses at their loveliest but they also are at their most life-giving. They are the perfect gift and match for the man of their dreams.
Amrit Grewal's artist statement explains the genesis of the project and its execution:
I am a wedding photographer, based in Vancouver, BC. I was approached by Wellgroomed (Indian bridal clothing store) to do a photo shoot for their advertisement campaign in South Asian Bride Magazine. Universal Decor & Wellgroomed conceptualized this project, with a need to show how Disney themes can migrate into other ethnicity.
We collaborate with some of the best vendors in the wedding industry and started the shoot in May 2014. It took us couple of months to finish the project including the editing time.
As a photographer, most challenging thing was the shoot of Ariel, as this shot required lot of post-processing. I am overwhelmed by the response we got form this project. This couldn’t have been possible without my team.
